Alaska CB1:

The 01 level 5" mounts (Port and Stbd) have interesting bent knee stanchions fitted with netting on the lower part, to prevent ejected spent casings from rolling off and beaning someone on the main deck. Not the easiest thing to construct but having a thrash at it. For netting I have some open net ribbon which I stretch, paint (for dimensional stability) and then cut to shape. I used this same ribbon for the heli deck nets on my Missouri and it seems to be decent for this purpose. Umm... Rigging, to quote a really experienced modeler "I hate rigging".

I did add the stbd side external fuel line and am still working on various iterations of the main battery bloomers. The wiring bundles on the sides of the stack remain to be done, not sure why these are proving problematic?

Alright time for a short update just to let everyone know I'm still alive and building. Since my last post, I've been finishing up the superstructure and moving to the tripod foremast and mainmast. On both I added details such as the bracing and rivets as well as the minor yards on the mainmast finishing it off (the major work) by a paint job. I finally got the yardarm on the foremast including the platform for the never-installed radar; I left both off as long as possible since I didn't want it in the way. Before moving to the main mast, I will add the small yard from the platform and rig the stays to the larger yardarms..Both aren't fixed to the ship yet. When I do, I will then rig the signal halyards and some radio antennas..

Probably the fluorescent lights, upper works look a bit green on my screen?

Looking very good! Only the most determined observers will know how much research went into this!

Yes, I keep my monitors calibrated as I do a lot of photo work.

Slow but at least unsteady... Been downhill skiing 3-4 days a week, getting ready for a photo show, and 4-runner project went wonky on me when one of the overhead cams sheared it's locator pin, resulting in about 25 pi compression on the left cyl bank. Made a new pin on the lathe and finally runs really sweet.

Been painting (or trying to) the two Seahawks. Small details, have to cobble up launch sleds for the Seahawks, make some more fueling hoses and rack for the well deck, and ugh, avoiding rigging!

What colors are you using on your Arizona? I like them.

The lowest level of the foretop has tubs, port and starboard, facing forward. These look like they have the pipe bars to restrain the training arcs of some sort of light AA, .50 cal or 20 mm. These were removed at some time but the bars remained? As always interesting questions about the ships history and modification come up!

Abram, the colors I used are Model Master Camouflage Gray for the tops and Testors (small, old style bottle) Flat Sea Blue. The funny story is that I was searching for a best/closest Sea Blue for the Ms 5S and a good friend told me the paint that has been on the shelf for a long time is a great match..I like it because I don't have to worry about getting identical mixes in between jobs/jars of paint. Plus with a touch of black it makes a spot on Deck Blue.

Tom, the spots you mention are for the .50 cal positions; two on the foremast, two on the funnel(each side), and four up in the birdbath. I haven't installed mine yet.. If you are looking at the wreck photos and seeing them gone, they were taken down and off loaded as soon as it was possible. Ammo/armament was removed as soon as it was possible. Here's a photo dated 10 Dec '41 showing them installed. It took about 3 days for the ship to cool off enough to board..

I am depicting her as she was after her repair from her collision with the Oklahoma with little/minimal weathering. 5S went on dark and fading quickly and I wanted to avoid the paler blue.

Depicting her paint job in 1941 you can more than likely have three options. The first one is the overall light gray as shown in the Jan 41 Puget Sound refit photos. She was then painted the 5D sometime in the summer and wore that until her collision with the Oklahoma (PH Oct-Nov). The directive for the new paint (5S) was back in September, but many ships still had their old measures(namely the Oklahoma and Nevada, experimental 5D with false bow wave). By then the paint had reached the yards but not necessarily the ships in November. The Arizona in the yard is assumed(seen by witnesses as well) to have received the 5S. Plus realistically, she had a flag officer assigned, so she was going to be compliant.

Continuing great research and information! Looking at the Dec 10 photo I can see a pipeline/utillidor crossing the harbor about where the current bridge is. Hadn't previously realized it was there!

The Plane is nicely done and will make a nice addition to the model. The decals are where you last put them. Just look there.
