I'm not able to do as many shows as I used to unfortunately... In a couple of weeks, I will visit the Mosonmagyarovar show, but Hungary is of course not very close for most Belgians. But for sure, it will be at the KMK Scaleworld show in Mol, in september. Hope to see you there?

Getting it finished will be enough as a prize for me!
But I must say the last bits are really enjoyable to do!

That is a very nice compliment for me Aop, as combining these too is what I try to do indeed. It is a delicate balance and therefore probably one of the hardest things to actually achieve.

I haven't visited modelling shows in years for several reasons, but I plan to do that again hopefully this year (pitty that my favourite show by Moveleo has been cancelled). KMK sounds good, heard good things about it in the past and Mol is in the same province where I live so that shouldn't be too hard

About the publisher thing: shouldn't selling figures of your previous book speak for themselves to convince them? ^^

That will be the first and last thing on their mind indeed (and that is only normal), but anything can help...

Meanwhile, I got the two smallest ships done: the lighter and barge.

After airbrushing them in a single sand-brown colour, the different base-colours were painted by hand with Humbrol enamels. Then they received filters with blue, green, red-brown, etc. oil paints for colour variation. After this was dry, filters and washes with dusty tones followed. Next, shadows were painted with very dark brown, and finally details were painted like streaks, dirty spots or stains, rust, panel or planking lines, etc.

First the lighter. Basecoat:

Shadows painted, details and weathering added, as well as the mast and rigging. The gaps with the seascape still need filling.



And the barge:

For colour variation in the woods, I mainly used dark brown tones. The scrap metal in the cargo hold received rusty washes/filters.

The shadows were painted and the cargo hold covers attached. Some planking and dirt was painted on too. I added the cloth cover with white glue and after drying painted it like the rest.





I forgot to place a match or a thumb in the photographs, but if you want to get a feeling for the scale: the things sticking from the bottom of the models are regular sized toothpicks.

Just when I wanted to mention the absence of a match I noticed you typed down you forgot to take a photo with it

man, this is just impressive. These blown photos tend to make you forget the sheer scale of it but when one sees the toothpick piece...Not for the fainthearted ey. I like them both but especially the wooden barge is a real eye catcher in my humble opinion.

I sense that the project slowly is nearing completion ey. I reckon you won't be adding a million figures this time, just a couple of hundreds?

No, even less than 20! Only some figures on the last small ship (that is passing by), and with the GMC truck and jeep that will still be added to the centre of the island.

This diorama is centered around a 1/700 WWII aircraft carrier just like the previous project, but I made sure every other aspect of it would be completely different...

Not completely different; in both cases you show your carriers sunk or sinking. Perhaps you have unresolved issues you need to discuss with a carrier therapist.

I think that the Lexington book was one of the best things they ever published and will be foolish on their side not to follow up with the Amagi one .
