gtbred, she will be getting her hanger deck and flight deck early next year with the island shortly after. Have to get the elevators mechanics in first though.

Starboard side near the 1cat overhang is wrong. Should be more like J.F.K or Nimitz class.

If you are referring to Red's comment on the L1 difference on America, then no. America and JFK had the deck edge extended further forward in front of EL1 towards the bow than Kitty Hawk and Connie. It is one of many reasons America is not just a re-box of a Kitty Hawk or Connie.

Compare this drawing of what America really looked like. The area in the red box is different than the deck red posted. That is what he is referring to.

I've received a 1/350 Trumpeter Kitty Hawk kit as a gift from the Mrs recently. I am interested in backdating this to the Viet Nam era configuration, late 1967 or early 1968 (Tet Offensive). Can anyone help me locate some plans for the ship from that era or other good reference materials? Even photos from the time period don't seem terribly easy to find. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

I'm not sure of the precise year of the kit but the air wing is mostly F-18 Hornets so it's more recent. I'm amazed that there is so little research material available for this ship. Shapeways (designer Model Monkey) offers parts to backdate the sponsons but I am specifically concerned with the conning tower and deck fittings that will be most visible.
