Speaking of Polar Bear, have you ever been able to contact them? I've been trying for about a month, but they're not answering. I'm interested in their Golf II kit.
I am also interested in that kit, and have not heard from Boris either. I hope he is OK.

Some interesting photos from Oleg Kuleshov of Pr. 971 Akula SSNs K-391 Bratsk and K-295 Samara. Apparently Samara was hit by a practice torpedo fired by the Pr. 667BDR Delta III SSBN Petropavlovsk. The torpedo hit her fiberglass bow sonar window, making a large hole. Both submarines appear in rough shape, but they are being transported to Severodvinsk for extensive modernization.

Putin and the Russian government are sure rejuvenating the Russian submarine force. The Oscar IIs are being upgraded to the Oscar III standard, Belgorod will finally be completed as either a rescue sub or a midget-sub carrier, the Akulas and all four Sierras are being modernized and uprated versions of the Borei and Yasen classes are starting to be built. Apparently there are fifth-generation SSNs in the works for the 2020s. It's an exciting time to be a Russian submarine fan. Hopefully the Russians will have calmed down over Ukraine by the time all these subs go online.

I really wish they would re-release the American SSBNs (GW, Ethan Allen, Lafayette ect.). They are at least somewhat accurate and no one else currently makes them in 1/350. The Yankee Model Works Soviet subs are really inaccurate.

Honestly, I consider all of the submarines from Lafayette to Will Rogers to be a single class. The only major external changes between the Lafayette, James Madison and Benjamin Franklin sub-classes are the placement of the sail planes (Franklins had their sail planes moved to halfway down the sail), the way the rudder works (only the top half moves in all but the last few boats) and the presence of small vertical surfaces on the aft planes (this seemed to vary from boat to boat more than sub-class to sub-class). Otherwise, all differences are internal and IMHO the overall variation from Lafayette to Will Rogers is small enough so that they can be one class. A case could be made that the Ethan Allens fit into this class because the only real major external difference is the added 15 feet (of course, there were internal differences too). You could even say this about the Permits and Sturgeons. They aren't really distinctive classes, rather they are an evolutionary continuum (Short Hull Permit, Long Hull Permit, Short Hull Sturgeon, Long Hull Sturgeon, and many variants in between).

Haha, probably. Sorry for the rant, I just have been trying to sort out all these differences between sub-classes for a while now and I needed somewhere to release it.

I will have to look at that though. I think my kit is the Daniel Boone kit and I think the planes are still mounted up high...

I think it might just be a cap of sorts to keep stuff from getting into the towed array tube.

Where did you find your Mikro-Mir Typhoon and how much did it cost? I found a few sites, but it's a lot pricier than I would have thought.
