Really love your build. Reminds me of my Yorktown and that I always wanted to do better - now I know where to start

Thank you guys for checking in on this project!
It's a complicated/challenging one, but it is mostly fun! Nice to see parts made years ago getting installed!
I finished the rear section to the hangar wall, onto the flight deck now.
I , again, used black decals sprayed with the superstructure color for creating the window frames, and It worked pretty good. Better than any other method I can think of.
Years ago when I created the spot for the helicopter control station, I messed up apparently, and build the location for it 3 mm off. That only became apparent after gluing the piece in place. Luckily it wasn't a complicated fix. But cost me precious time.
I also test fitted the superstructure (from now on abbreviated "SS") to the hull. It gets locked onto there pretty tight! But it is easily removeable as of now. Super-detailing the SS BEFORE gluing it in place totally paid off! It was so much easier adding everything with it being a separate unit, rather than also having to deal with the entire hull with it , limiting movement and access. I also tried the whole thing onto its proposed base, and I think it will all come together rather neatly!
Started working on the stern! Suuuuper exciting stuff!
let me know what you think

Excellent work!
I really like how you differentiated the color of the main deck to the flight deck. That is good attention to detail. The CIWS are on point. The helo in the hangar is great.
Have you detailed the interior of the hangar?
Heep up the good work!

Thank you for your response 'navydavesof', and certainly thank you for the compliments, they are unbelievably motivating!
I did detail ( rather scratchbuilt) the hangar, I posted pictures of the progress on the first page of this thread, but I shall have better images after the flightdeck is complete.
I did put the project on hold for a couple of months now because I am restoring my car (1/1 scale modelling), and also went on a holiday where- among other cool things- I got to TOUCH THE USS MIDWAY AT THE WATERLINE!!!!!!

Absolutely a highlight of my life, highly recommend it to all the carrier-lovers out there!
But the stern of this ship is almost finished ! Off to a few other details before permanently attaching the superstructure!
Thank you all for checking this thread!

Hello everyone!
Although the comments have dwindled ( it's not like the Nimitz-days), I still would like to thank everyone following and posting!
I have been making progress on this project almost everyday for the last 2 months. I am going to be laid-off in a week for 5 months , so my spare time will be expanding into infinity! For that I am hoping to finish this ship in 2023! While it may not look like there is not much left to do, it takes a lot of time to make this kit resemble the real thing, so much scratchbuilding of tiny details remain...
I permanently attached the superstructure to the hull. It went without any hiccups. Tons of railings and pipes on either side. I tried to pay close attention to spacing , and whether the real ship has 3 or 4-bar railings in place.
I know how much most people don't have the patience to read long stories, so I will let the pictures talk.
Happy modelling!
Laci

Beautiful work on a difficult kit. I have this kit in my stash to build my old ship, USS Normandy, but seeing as Flyhawk promises a VLS Tico in 1/350th, I think I'll hold off starting on it.

I see familiar names with the responses: WELCOME BACK, and thank you for the kind words!!!!
Marijn: What are you working on now?!?
Neptune: Haha, I see what you mean, it's not very pretty at first....There was a bit of wet-sanding at the joint of the hull and the SS ( superstructure) ...
I especially appreciate the compliments about the weathering because it is all shooting from the hip. These ships for the majority of the time are kept very neat and clean , and new-looking ( yes, I have seen pics to the contrary, but not of Vincennes), so it's hard to weather them realistically, and I can only hope I succeeded... It should almost be left clean gray ( in this scale), but then it would just look like a toy....
Devin: OMG, is it ever a difficult kit!! Very little is left original....I would so welcome a new kit of this class!!! I was not aware of the Flyhawk kit, But I am sure it's gonna be excellent, and probably will have saved me so much time and prevent so much aggravation....
I moved onto the PORT side, and currently bogged down with the captain's gig....
Happy modelling!

Hey, welcome back, glad to see you have not recovered from your model detail insanity addiction! She is looking beautiful, weathering and details... just gorgeous!

I have just binge-read the whole thread from the beginning.
Your work is sharp, well executed and uncompromising .
The ship is not of my era of interest or obsession-
- but the quality shines though!
well done

Thank you for those who commented and for the kind fords!
A real honour, Jim!

I wish I could transport my 2 ships to Telford! Or to any competition, for that matter....
I am getting a lot of little things done, and enjoying it quite a bit since I only have a week or so left of this project!!
I keep finding/correcting a lot of mistakes, so I am especially thankful for my camera to have hid them in the first place....
Aside from a little weathering left, the PORT and Starboard sides are COMPLETE!
I do have some work left on the bow, the stern and on the SH-60.
I handpicked a crew because I think they will add a bit of color to the ship. Especially since normally there aren't a bunch of crewmembers all over the decks during operations on these class of ships.
I apologize for the cellphone pics for now, and there will be more professional looking pictures coming at the end.
Happy modelling: Laci

Hello Everyone, a quick update!
'Perfect construction"?! Ha ha, thank you Jaguar, But no! If it looks that way, it's just the camera being very gracious! For instance I lost one half of the double doors on the front of the superstructure years ago, and so far I have been able to hide the fact that it's missing...
And because they are not standard doors, I will have a very difficult time replacing/making them....
But I am very grateful for the positive comments!
I am very close to finishing ( have been for weeks

), but I didn't realize I was out of blue for the uniforms of my crewmembers, so I had to order that. Should be here before the Boxing Day!
But most of the rigging and ALL of the flags have been installed, Plus they called me from the glass shop today: My glass case required to protect this little guy is ready for pickup!
Merry Christmas, and happy modelling in the New Year too!
Cheers: Laci
