Actually, one more month passed with little progress until the last couple days - gloss coat airbrushed finally and decals applied. I realize that the ship name on boats is a bit overscale, but I think it is a nice detail, so I close my eyes
Next step: oil filters!

Applied filters using dilluted artistic oil paints. Seemed to be overdone at first, but better today after the turpentine dried. Looks more subtle to my naked eye than to the camera lens and I hope the final matt varnish will blend it all together even more.

Next step: pin wash and dry brushing

Thank you, sirs, I keep going! I made some visible progress with my Kinugasa at last, she really deserved it after being at works for about a year and a half...

Weathering (filters, pin wash and dry brush) finally done, matt varnish applied and good part of the final assembly completed. The photos are not too good, it was about to start raining and it got quite dark outside.

Some touch up will be needed here and there and then she�ll get populated with her crew. Last but not least I�ll add some mess to the aircraft handling platform and elsewhere on the main deck before rigging her.

@Abram: I�ve been using 20 den UNI-Caenis monofilament (black and white) for the thinnest rig on my previous builds and it worked really fine for me. You need to have the masts etc. strong enough, but I am replacing them with brass anyway. It is good to scale and really durable, an accidental touch makes no harm to it. The only disadvantage is that the lines are always straight, no reallistically looking sag is possible. That�s why I intend to try using 0.06mm thin steel wire (bought from Shelf Oddity) for this build, let�s see how it will come out. You need to spray it with the desired colour before application. I just hope it won�t be too fragile (not meaning just breaking it but also diverting it from the desired saggy angle) by touching it accidentally, that can never be completely avoided.

Don't be afraid - pushing yourself is how you grow.

I've started to move away from the Caenis line, as I find it a pain in the ass (for me) to attach. I've started using Infi line and Uschi's "rig that thing". Those are Lycra line. They are fiddly to work with, but once you kinda get the knack, they look better than most other rigging materials (IMO).

I've started to move away from the Caenis line, as I find it a pain in the ass (for me) to attach.

The way I work with Caenis is like this:

• for attachment to the hull etc. I drill a small hole (like 0.3mm or so), insert the line, then use a piece of stretched sprue as a "plug", secured with a small drop of CA glue
• to attach to a mast or yardarm I used to make a knot there and apply CA glue, but then I found that it is not necessary. I attach a piece of plasti fix as a weight, then wrap the line around the yardarm (3/4 of a circle is enough) and again a small drop of CA

FWIW. I�ve got no experience with Lycra lines mentinoned. Let�s see how will the wire work.

I do not like Lycra so much, because it adds more stress to the masts. Sometimes, the material looks also strange (irregular) when stretched, especially the thicker ones (40 denier). The style of a certain brand is anyway not acceptable, because its mimics Nazi propaganda.

Interesting idea, I always stretched it befor glueing and used heat only in case of a later problem.

What do you mean?

Just quick photos (sorry for the quality) of my first attempts with the wire - standing wires. Here the advantage of sagging is not (and should not) be too apparent. What I like is the possibility to cut the wire to an exact length and than attaching it only then. What I dislike is the amount of time it had taken me so far - ho this will get better as I gain more experience. I also attached the line for the national flag (that�s the one oddly looking, it will make more sense when the flag will be in place). Next come the hallyards.
