I like your model of the Reina Sofia, very much. Is that a Spanish ship?

What model kit did you use for yours? Mine is an older Skywave 1/700 kit, identical to DRAGON. I am curious about the conversion differences from USN to Spain's FFG. Where did your detail parts come from?

I am looking for a 1/700 Mk 38 25mm chain gun in 1/700 to put on my model. I was told that some Fujimi FFG kits have them included.

Hi, Carl,

I used Dragon's USS Ingram Kit, but the "premium parts" are not useful for my built.

For the neccessary conversions, Mr. Francisco P. de Nanclares' post on page one of this thread has covered the most important points. I scratched all the conversion parts, including the Meroka CIWS. The Pitroad/Dragon Type 42 kits have one in the weapon sprue, but it is overscale in my opinion.

Kazec,

Thanks for your reply.

Which are saying is included in Skywave/Pitroad Type 42? The Meroka CIWS or the 25mm?

Hi there Jimmy and all,

I use mainly Humbrol liquid poly, and CA at times. It works wonderfully with Evergreen styrene.
I hope it helps, and best regards,

Willie.

Hi all once more,

Last night I finished the wind gauges mounted on the first set of aerials, one of the most distinctive elements of this mast :

Along with some other details that i have added, the second platform is at the moment like this :

Very best regards,

Super nice, Willie!

I am debating on painting the horizontal platforms on my mast the same as the deck color. Would this be correct, do you think?

I scratch built a Mk 38 25mm Bushmaster Chain Gun for my USS Sides. She had one on the stbd side in 1988. Location on the model was confirmed by a USS Sides vet.

I just noticed the top torpedo tube is crooked.

Here there is one located on the port side on another FFG.

Thanks, Jimmy C!

The USS Sides is turning out a lot better than my first FFG, the 1/700 DRAGON USS Ingraham. I wasn't overly pleased with that one. I have chocked it up to practice.

I painted it the wrong color for one, Light Ghost Gray. It was too, blue. The scratch build on the flag staff on the mast was sloppy for two, and the rigging was my first try. I tried putting railing above the bridge and got too, frustrated with it. I wasn't pleased with the black wash weathering job that I tried, either.

Practice, practice, practice.

The photo and the water effect making it look better than it really is.

Hi there Nuke and all,

I have never seen the upper platforms myself, but I am also going to paint them the way you say, the same dark grey as the main decks.
Your construction is as clean and nice as can be, and the handrailings are simply superb. Please keep the pics coming.
Very best regards,

Willie.

Hi all again,

The upper platform is already finished, lacking only the pods and the whip aerials, that are very delicate and will be mounted at the end of the construction, with the main platforms already set in place and painted.

Hi Guys,
Willie,
Stunning effort. I know where your heart lies!
I have NOT forgotten your request; please give me more time, and keep up the exceptional work. I really think this build needs greater attention than it's getting.
