"As my drawings are to that scale" - my ears prick up - do you have a full set of drawings Dave or are these you own reconstructions?
If the former are they available commercially and from where? Do they have hull sections? I live in hope.

Re: Calling all Russian Steregushchy class corvette fans
Thanks Pepe for an interesting post which gives some STERUSHCHY Class armament options. I found this graphic which show that our corvette is planned to have some nasty fangs. Question is what will replaces the KASHTAN/KORTIK for longer range AAW/ASMD Defence?

Re: Calling all Russian Steregushchy class corvette fans
There was no longer range AAW intended. The Kashtan would be replaced by the Kinzhal VLS, placed near the current Uran position, 8, 12 or 16 cell blocks on each side, in a configuration like the land based Tor version (I don't know which guidance radar they'd use for Kinzhal though, as in the presentation I didn't see the Podkat appear).
The Klub would then be placed in the Kashtan position forward. All together this Tiger (which is the name of that "new" type of corvette and offered for export) is a very potent platform for its size and would greatly improve their capabilities, certainly if they succeed of using all Klub variants, meaning ASW and ASuW versions.

Re: Calling all Russian Steregushchy class corvette fans
I am becoming quite interested in what the baseline 20380 STERGUSHCHY class will carry for the Russian Navy as against the 20382 (Tiger) variant proposed for the export market and defined by STEREGUSHSCHY's present configuration.
The STERGUSHCHY WIKI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steregushc ... s_corvette) proposes some interesting weapons includding the SS-N-29, Can anyone advise where this weapon will be sited?
I have also seen the S-A-N 9 missile system (2 X) proposed to replace/augment the AK630s.
Anyone have any definitive weapon configurations for the 20380?
Cheers

Re: Calling all Russian Steregushchy class corvette fans
The SSM would, apart from the current Uran, be placed in a VLS module in place of the Kashtan forward. The SA-N-9, Kinzhal, blocks would be configured in two rectangular modules where the Uran is situated now. They'd fill up that large space in which the Uran is standing and inside that space would be the two blocks. It would be give her a slightly more reliable short/medium range defense, but would of course sacrifice on the last ditch defense by losing the Kashtan. In addition it would give her a longer range anti-ship defense and perhaps a better anti-submarine fit if they can mix the SSM Klub variant with the anti-submarine Klub variant.

Re: Calling all Russian Steregushchy class corvette fans
That's the Yakhont I suppose? The Yakhont was under development for a long time. After that they co-developed it as the Yakhont with Indian assistance for the electronics. What the Russians will use, is still a question. Yakhont herself was also developed under an air and sub-launched variants, in which modes she was even tested from the submarine Berkut. The Ship launched version was, and is being, tested from the Nanuchka class called Nakat. Whether they'll go for Brahmos or go for their own Yakhont is still the question. One has Indian electronics and is not so secretive, and is even supposed to be construction in India, the other is Russian, yet with a shared propulsion and shape.
The Klub and Brahmos are both inducted in active service in other Navies, so perhaps they'll opt for something proven...
As to why exactly the Russians aren't using any of these new missiles is still a question, apart from the Uran, they don't seem to use anything new. Perhaps there is a change in mind, opting for a less detectable, slower missile over the high speed, yet better detectable ones (much like US did a few decades ago). Perhaps they are just waiting, or upgrading their current Moskit launchers to the new Moskit, which would be the cheaper, yet more reliable method.

Thanks Neptune. Interesting observations. SS-N-29 is MEDVEDKA - see http://warfare.ru/?linkid=1736&catid=312. It is something like an ASROC from the Blurb. Interesting to figure out where it would be fitted.

Re: Calling all Russian Steregushchy class corvette fans
Ah I see, never seen Medvedka listed for this class. I'm not that familiar with NATO designations anymore, certainly the later ones.
They have reportedly developed a VLS version of this weapon, but I've never seen any test result nor test ship with a VLS version of this weapon.
On the Udaloy III it was supposed to be placed in its original angled launcher (the thing you've shown on the picture, it hinges up before launch) amidships in a similar configuration to the Uran configuration on Stereguchiy.
Once again however I've never seen it listed for this class. Perhaps a VLS on the side of the hangar? Because if they place the Tor-M1 (Kinzhal) in the Uran space, then there is no space for the angled Medvedka launcher...
I've only seen this missile on the small missile craft/hydrofoil in the Black Sea Fleet, their regular test fleet for new equipment.

Thanks Neptune for your comments.
I suspect that we will see some really interesting things start to come out from Russia now - through Steregushchy and other platforms. Meanwhile we will probably have to keep observing what is happening through our sources while hopefully someone from the Russian end will help with a Steregushchy class upgrade plan.
Cheers

Agree on that, I think, about really new weapons systems, that the Admiral Gorshkov frigate might be the first to carry anything like that. She might set a standard for new Russian Naval systems onboard their ships and perhaps she'll have an influence on the Stereguchiy designs when and if they decide to give it a better air defence suite as well as anti-sub defences. Basically for now the Uran seems to be the main stay as it was fitted to the second Neustrashimy frigate along with the current, and very likely next Stereguchiy.

Thought I'd share this one, from Itar. The Soobrazitelny. Very odd hull shape with that strange sonar dome.

Re: Calling all Russian Steregushchy class corvette fans
The hull shape is typically Russian - hull sides slope inwards from the deck, relatively sharp turn of bilge and relatively deep rise of floors compared with western ships - but in this case no knuckles as in Krivak and with flatter than normal bow cross-sections. The dome is a little unusual but could be made independantly of the hull and attached to it which would make life a bit easier. This shot tends to confirm what Neptune and I have discussed earlier in this thread and that is the presence or not of an actual flare ie curved sections in the bow - looks from this that she hasn't much flare. We all await some definitive cross sections.
