Les than 500 pounds???
My Montana build has already accumulated more than 900 pounds at 1/350....

I think that I will start scratchbuilding....

Do you think that it would be possible if someone wanted to build a static model in large scale (lets say 1/144 or 1/96) to build the hull in separate pieces? This would take a lot less space than a single piece hull.
I think workspace is the real problem for large scale models.

Could we see a list of the basic power tools needed - used for the build of Duane and Iron Duke?

If modular ship construction worked back in the 40's for the real thing I bet it will work on a smaller scale. As for basic power tools check out the Iron Duke build, you should view it anyway because it has a wealth of information.

Hi Guys, The next job I decided to do was make a mould for the 25 man life raft.

I rolled some Milliput in to a long thin round section, then cut the shape of the bottom of the life raft out of plywood, the milliput was rapt round to shape the sides and left to dry.

I then cut some litho plate to make a mould, in the bottom I put scenic clay and placed the life raft in to it, mixing some moulding rubber I poured it over the life raft and left to set.

Hi Guys, After the mould had set I poured some resin in and cast two liferafts, I then fitted rope round the out side and timber in the base of the raft.
Having lost my small liferaft from Moffett I had to make a new mould and cast some more small liferafts, these are all painted to the colour of the back ground camo.

Hi Guys, I made some depth charges and fit them in the racks.

The depth carges were made from round plastic tube and filled with milliput.

o WOW!!! AWESOME JOB RON!!! those look great!

those rafts and depthcharges and their racks all look very effective indeed!

The ship is starting to look 'busy'

I have been making some Bollards, made 1 , made a mould from it and have cast a few more.

Put together a practice loader that I bought extra when I built Moffett.

Made the second weather and blast shield for the 3 inch on the bridge.

Hi Guys, I built the second mast on the rear structure, made it of brass rod, put on the cross tree and the jack staff, also fitted 2 more life rafts.
