I will NOT place these images on public image web sites such as Imgur. There is no access control on Imgur. Some material was given to me with the understanding it would NOT be widely distributed. I am happy to share on an individual basis with interested individuals (fellow modelers) with the understanding that it is not posted on these public access web sites. All of my personal photos are on a web site where I can control access. You know Tom, you could use an image hosting site like imgur and that way all of us can see the diagrams. Understood. I mentioned an external image host as a solution to your not being able to upload them here and you didn't mention any issues you had with external image hosts.

Re: Calling all Russian submarine fans
I would just build the Gepard as is, maybe scratch-building a towed array pod and correcting the sail shape. Neither is very accurate, but the Hobby Boss Akula is definitely worse. You could also go for a Polar Bear models resin Akula II, which would be extremely accurate, and probably cost as much as the two kits together.redoctober27 wrote:So quick question.. is could broncos Gepard be used to more acuratly used to kit bash with Hobby boss's Akula model for a more acurate Akula II ship?? Photo of a brochure on the Piranha class of midget subs - might be useful for anyone doing the 1/144 Micro-Mir kit.

Guys,
I have the HB 1/350 Dolgorukiy SSBN and was wondering how the sub was painted? Did she have the entire lower hull in red primer, or just the bow portion? I've seen pictures of both, but I'm not sure if this is after launch or before.
TIA
Brad

Re: Calling all Russian submarine fans
At launch, she had a dark burgundy lower hull with bright red sonar windows. After that, it's hard to say because the only active service drydock photo I've found only shows green marine growth on the lower hull. But since subsequent Boreis have been all-black at launch, I would go with all-black.Brad-M wrote:Guys,

Pay attention to the drafts, HB did not mirror them. So left and right look the same.
If You looking for decals to build any variant of the emblems seen on the of the Y. Dolguruki, the W. Monomakh or A. Nevski, just ask me.

So I got my 1/350 Tango and Delta III from Polar Bear.. They are my 7th and 8th from this company. This batch are so crisp and perfect. The Delta III looks so good i'm scared to screw it up by putting paint to it. I will post pictures tonight.

Which Delta III unit You want to build? In case of the Tango, in this movie (http://cinema.mosfilm.ru/films/film/198 ... rate-36-80) at 1:05 a tango class is used to act as a USN -sub and has a nice mailing at the side-a red panther on a white circle.

For the waterliners, the Danish navy took a great shot of Dmitry Donskoy, the last Typhoon, as she passed through the Danish Straits on her way to St. Petersburg earlier this week - the camera orientation and calm waters make her wake pattern very clear to discern and replicate:

Anyone happen to know if the missile doors on a PAPA opened inward like an OSCAR or outward?
BTW, nice to see Dmitry Donskoy out and about...
Thanks,
Dave

Re: Calling all Russian submarine fans
Awesome. Thanks for that. I was thinking that I might break open one side of the doors on my new Mikro-Mir PAPA to show the tubes and that drawing gives some great info.
Wish I had seen a pic of the open doors on a YASEN earlier in my build because I would have popped a set open.
Cheers,
Dave

Project lyra 705 (Alpha)
I have found this page (in Russian) with several interesting (and new to me) pictures of the lyra 705 / 705k.
The topic is one of my favorites and I doubted to still find something not yet seen by me on that.
I am working on a diorama about a 705 and a Victor III in 1/350
