Searching for pictures of german ships I "only" found some interesting photographs of your "Arabis" type:

(as I can't link: type subject: arabis
perios: first ww and submit)

Here's an example:

Maybe that'll help...

Hi Guys ,

building at a veeeeeryyyyy slow speed those days , a lot of different improvments to do in the house and on the cars

that's no valable excuse , I'm just telling :censored_2: crap , I know ... :eyebrows:

some super detailling , as I saw Uli's model , I couldn't sleep for nights , I decided to do like him :thumbs_up_1: :

the signalling flags locker , situated abaft the pilot house , with a little chart table on it , all this has been made with cardboard , on some pictures , you may seen that the glazing has been glued :

Image
Image

detailling the CO's cabin sliding door , the white unfinished part near & beneath it will be a skylight for the CPO's & PO's mess below , in the door are the two holes for the handle :
Image
Image

I added some railing around the CO's cabin :

That's it for today , I'm going to paint the funnels ( outer skin in grey , inner skin in matt black ) & the under part of the boat's deck tonight ...

Regards ,

Laurent

Who would want to be a Senior Rate on that ship? At least on modern ships the Skipper has to make an effort to ruin your day, here all he has to do is open his door and pee down the skylight. Nuts to that for a game of sailors!

:woo_hoo: The signal flags locker ist amazing and I like the door too!

Keep on Laurent! I haven't done anything since yesterday, hope to get to finish the other rails on the bridge together with the stairs tomorrow. Let's see if I get the time to do it.

Hi Guys ,

those last days , I worked on the pilot house equipment

first the telemotor ...

as a reference , while surfing on the net , I only could find a decent picture of a telemotor on board Titanic's wreck :
Image

to model that stuff , I used a piece of Evergreen tubing ( 2 mm in outside diameter ) , all the rest , like the casting reinforcements , is in cardboard

I added a 0,3 mm piece of brass rod to represent the piping

I didn't find a steering wheel in the appropriate size , so I did my own .

I tried to do it in brass --> just forget it

self photo-etching is beyond my knowledge --> forget it either

Trying to build that :censored_2: wheel in wood almost caused me several heart attacks --> just forget it again :heh:

I tried to do them in cardboard , and I succeeded ( well , sort of ... ) :woo_hoo:

the compass stand is a white metal part , bought through the net , a while ago , by "Hasse" in Germany...

the pictures :

you noticed the greasy fat under my thumb's nail ( and some scars ) , its not because I'm allergic to soap & water but I fought a battle with my Van's barn doors :mad_1: --> I won :surfer:

See you later !

Excellent work that looks indeed very good.
I have a compassstand from zinnecker (lead), would you recommend the Hasse part?

Hi Uli ,

I should say : order one compass by "Hasse" ( it costs 1 ) , you'll see the difference ...

I never ordered by Zinnecker , though , so I'm not able to tell you who's better ...

Hi Petros ,

they have a stand at "Intermodellbau" , it might be the reason why they don't answer your questions ...

Also , they don't have an online catalogue , you'll have to buy their catalogue ...

Hi Guys ,

I worked yesterday & today a little further on Zinnia :

a few hatches & skylights are in the workshop , as usual , I used cardboard

here under a skylight above the Officers' mess , in the middle a hatch leading to the tunnel space , to the right a skylight to the same tunnel room :
Image

this skylight is unfinished for now , there are one hatch & the two different covers above the skylights to come :
Image
Image
Image

here under the building of a hatch on the forecastle deck , cardboard again , completely hollow inside , there above comes a cover with 4 windows :
Image
Image

Some views of the pilot house without the engine room transmitters :
Image
Image
Image

the two engine room orders transmitters under construction , the base is a toothpick , cut to the right length , on top of it , there is paper wrapped around , glued with white glue , till I got the desired diameter ( toothpick being 2 mm in diameter , the top being 4 mm diameter )
Image
Image
Image

the pilot house with the two E.R. transmitters ( dry fitted , they still have to be coated with resin , sanded a little , painted and the operating wheels have to be fitted ) ...
Image
Image

top of the wheelhouse , with the bearing compass on it ( dry fitted again , the grating has to get some "legs" under ) :
Image
Image

on the after part of the after deck , above the steering gear room , there are two chequered plates fitted , they just fit on the opening I had to make to get access to the rudder linkage , so this opening will not to be seen
( well , not totally  )

To further hide this opening , there will come a kite balloon storage rack :
Image
Image

That's it for today

As I move for 4 weeks to another location for my job , there will be nor update till next weekend , nor reactions from me on this very message board , sorry ...

Regards ,

Laurent

I love those compasses, I worked with exactly the same at school! Still that old crap, but fun to correct those for all the errors. I heard they replaced it this year, too bad, cause it looked pretty authentic!

I love all the detail you're putting in this model...
