I used pennies for the five inch gun mount bases.
The pennies could be more valuable than the model someday. LOL

Added the rear deck of the superstructure after completing the railings below.

Fliger 747 ...Whats going on with your 1:192 build?

Do you still need to know the size of those 2 round radomes?

More railings. (I hope all is well Fliger 747) He is another 1:192 scale builder.

Yes need to know the radome dia still, think it is 10 ft or so? Back from Japan so plugging away, did some hand planking of the 03 level a aft the Admirals bridge and fwd of the mid MK 37 directors. Fixed the front of the mid ships Tomahawk deck and a few other items.

Found some ribbon which makes a great 4" mesh. A light coat of blk paint stiffens it and then I glue it to a a frame cut of thin styrene or Bristol Board (Strathmore). Hollow out behind and it looks pretty good. The Bristol Board is an archival paper and holds up well. I have some models with superstructures of it 50 years old and in good shape.

Will post a photo or two if you don't object as is is your topic.

Please post your photos as it is of great interest to me.
Also those radomes.

The two radomes shown on the 1991 version plastic model are the same size.
One side of the bottom of the round ball should be
flattened and they should be about .760 thousandths
in diameter.
they should both be painted grey.

The 1991 plastic model 1/700 scale shows them about .205 thousandths diameter.
So 3.74 X .205 =.766

On my previous model One was black and one was smaller and painted grey.
But the photos were from about 1986?

Good idea about that ribbon. I remember seeing some of that on a fancy Christmas tree.

on norberto's tread you asked what to glue styrene to wood.you can use anything you like ,but i use contact cement it woperks realy well,especialy for larger areas.

It is better to go back and rework if it is still possible or you
may lie awake at night. Know what I mean?

Right now I am soldering the "tuna tower" Kind of a fun part.

Tower looks good, be a while till I get to it.

I did go back and taper the bulkheads at the fwd end of the covered weather deck under the aft tomahawk deck. Not quite finished with it. Would have been much easier before the deck went on!
