This got to be one of the finest collection i�ve ever seen Mr. Gill , the 1/144 Nagato is certainly one of the biggest attractions of it. I�m glad this girl ended up in your hands i got to see some pictures when she was on Ebay but if it�s not much to ask could take more pictures of the model in the near future. TIA

i had a friend of mine make me a display book shelve it is 57"wide 6' high and 12"deep made of oak,moveable shelves.it will hold 5 1/200 scales ships.it fits perfectly in between the two existing units.

Great displays - some are really museum quality!! I collect primarily Recognition Scale (1/1200-1/1250), so I can really put a lot in small spaces. There is also a lot more civilian ships available, though I do have mainly warships. Unfortunately, most of those are still stored in tackle boxes in my closet!! :

You guys sure helped, I showed my wife some of your displays, now shes's talking about letting me build some wall cases in the hallway With 1/1200's, you can get away with cases no more than 2" thick!

This is my commercial ships display. The case was my grand-dad's and it recently made 100 years old!

This is a closer look inside the case, there's still room for more. These are mainly European ships, w/ predreads and Eagle thrown in to boot

My models are sort of middle of the road quality like. I have some nice wooden shelves I bought from a garage sale.

I finally was able to get ahold of some reasonably priced glass cases, the tall one I found on an auction site for $100, and I really like, it, I would like to get another one to match it. The shorter one was from a display at a salon, I got it for $25, and I had to rewire the lights. I plan to redo the wooden moulding to match the dark taller one, my only real gripe with this case it it only opens from the back, but for $25 it was a heck of a deal.

amazing matt. that looks like a place i could chill out in for hours.
i have big plans for our new house when we move in in a couple months. the basement, want to combind home projector theater with display room. LED lights to shine down on island model displays around seating area for home theater. amongst other lighting ideas.

I have had the privilage over the years to see a number of collections but this is indeed a Classic . Jim Woods in the UK has an outstanding large scale ship collection but Matt this is truly magnificent .Thanks for showing it's much appriciated.

Hi Dave. Many thanks for your very kind e-mail. It hit at the right time. My basement (where the ship displays are located) was hit hard by the recent floods in the Atlanta area with water a few inches deep in that room and throughout the lower level of our home. Fortunately no damage to the models but I've been kind of down about the whole thing - wondering whether it was worth the time, effort and expense to rebuild it. I think you're e-mail pushed me toward reconstruction and improvement.

I truly love this art that builders such as yourself create with your hands and skills - have since I was a little kid. Being able to surround myself with these ships feels like a true privilege (especially given my own very limited skill set). My only complaint is that I don't get much of a chance to share them with others who also enjoy quality models as much as I do.

At any rate, appreciate your kind thoughts and when I get that sucker rebuilt, I'll post a few more pictures as there is now a very nice 1/192 1944 Intrepid in camo complete with air wing that makes quite an impression. Take care and if you OR ANYONE gets to or through Atlanta, please get in touch - would love to share it over a beer or glass of wine. Matt

when I started this thread in 2007 (on page 1) the case pictured below was still half empty ...

and half the models on these shelves were still un-released!!

I had held out on you guys,...

My sailing ships and liners are in a different room....

Having all the 1/700 ships on a common width base means I can re-arrange the displays within all the different wall cases as the collections grow.

The models on the upper shelves are angled so that the average height viewer can see all the models from the same viewpoint

I have bought some new wallcases--identical to my existing- to house my ever increasing 1/700 modelship collection.---

and as such the large 1/96 armoured cruiser model of HMS Cumberland will soon be looking for a new good home-- complete with her glass case--interested purchasers please contact me PM or e-mail.

My space is NOTHING compared to everything I see. It is only now that I am starting to research how to paint, so please, don't laugh. . And, I am a rounded modeller, modelling everything except sci-fi.

The last two show models that aren't even on display, but waiting for a purpose.
