I liked that crane a lot, but can you rebuild using a smaller diameter rod? I thought it was a bit overscale.

I likey the new bridge a lot! Makes it look a bit more USNish =)

Thanks gents, I think I will try to rebuild the crane and you are correct it did look a bit LARGE for this ship so I have some .015 wire. Do you think that would be good or to small ? As far as the bridge that's what I was going for and am pleased that's how it appears.

Hmm... not sure what you're using the hangars for... aside from boat storage. You might consider removing the boats on top, maybe putting in 40mm positions on top of those. Slide the middle twin turret back some, bring the three barbettes closer, so you can stretch out the wells for your secondary guns. I'd suggest widening the deck a little, putting in some flak mounts between the searchlights. Since you're doing this seemingly American/German, use German 20mm and American 40mm, since they're respectively both rather effective, for what you want. I still say you could get away with doing another two of the large secondary gun positions, one forward and one aft of the existing pair. a 12-gun broadside at that size would be rather powerful.

I like the secondary gun idea. You could even give them a high angle ability. Just thinking about the Yamato firing flak shells with it's main guns turns me on. Mmmm. But, looks amazing man.

Sauragnmon; I think I'm just going to stick with the 6 secondary for each side. I do think that the 5" guns will have a high enough angle to fire some flak off. The hangers I think are going to be both storage and a machine shop of sorts, but mainly they take up some room in the middle. That shelf I'm working on is to add about 6 AA emplacements per side around the funnels. The addition off the shelf around the very front off the superstructure is for more AA, I'm also adding a shelf around the very rear of the superstructure for more AA. I think I'm going to add some small sponsons around the outer edge of the ship for more AA. I'm working on atrial one now and I'll post a pic to get some advice on if it will be a functional addition or not. This is a stupid question. What exactly is a barbette ? I'm not clear as what they are.

While I'm at it here is what I've been working on with the secondary battery. It makes for a lot more room for the turrets

A quick idea. If you're going with multi national weapon systems. Might I recommend the English 2 pounder 'pom pom' s? About the most wicked set of Anti Air for close range I've ever seen, and perfect for those pesky little kamikaze pilots as they shred planes like swiss cheese. =D

Also, are you planning on putting a set of torps on the thing? Because real men use torps, look at the Tirpy.

Yes, I was going to put some torpedo launches on it, I was thinking a tri set forward and rear on both sides. As for the pom poms were do I get them and how much ?

Not sure all the makers. I know that a few of the Tamiya British ships come with em. Like the PoW.

WEM has them in both varieties 4 and 8 guns.

well i've been a bit busy, as I hope that all of you can tell , even though it doesn't look like much ( again ) it's been a long road, so here is what I've been up to since the last upload.

I started out by making some changes to the upper tower.



I finally got the funnels glued together and puttied up


added the aft superstructure shelf, although I think it might be a bit big, but here it is



then started on the superstructure camo, but couldn't figure out why it didn't match,

then I realized i had it on the wrong side.

and it looked a lot better after I figured out the stupid mistake.

Hmmm, my comments and thoughts...

Forward Tower - looks interesting, not sure about the top of it being so open. Doesn't look quite right. But then there's still aerials and such to add.

Stacks and Midships - The forward 20mm tubs, you should lower those so they line up better with the aft pair, they look weird floating over nothing as they stand. Remove the covered searchlight positions from the stacks, since you're not using those. Perhaps searchlights in the gaps between the stacks, leaving the nice rounded out areas to position heavier AA in place, either Pompoms or Bofors. Fill out that section between the two secondary gun positions, it looks wrong cut in like that for no reason, just doesn't make much sense in the middle of the deck like that.

Aft Superstructure - The shelf is a little big, size it up for a pair of Pom Poms, one either side of the wedge, and then take the corners back so you have a slightly more rounded area. Put four Flakvierling positions on the deck above, perhaps another one on the Pom Pom shelf, on the forward side. You could possibly also round out the deck above that, straight aft, and put in another pom pom there, above the Vierling positions, replacing those two AA mounts. Make sure the length of the shelf does not interfere with the barbette.

Turrets - They look nice, you could probably get away with a Flakvierling mount over each of the secondary turrets. Additionally, you could do something akin to South Dakota's turret AA, with a Bofors raised to fire in the center over a pair of 20mm positions, in this case Vierlings, because you have the space to do that.

Forward AA tubs - the T-style just doesn't quite look right in my thoughts, a single Bofors might be better, with additional stuff, on the deck, further down the bow. The tubs are interesting, but remember you'd be better off streamlining them more to avoid unpleasant wave action in high seas.

I do have to agree with the comment of the aa tubs. Maybe it's just me, but a strong rogue wave would rip off the guns if hit at the right angle. Maybe you could think of making more an indent into the hull itself, so it's not like a bubble on the hull, more of a slot there. Toss in maybe a four barreled 50 cal, or a 3 barreled US aa gun.
