The more I see the more delighted I am with his ships. There are models from all eras and types and his work on simulating waters is a marvel.
Jim, I would like to see more detail. Is there any place where I cna find larger photos?

Wow, what an awesome collection. I'm new to ship modeling, so I am not familiar with Robert Wilson but after looking at this work. I'm sure glad to know that I know who he is now. By any chance, are their any of his built online? Perhaps, here or an other site that I can read? I would love to lean some of his methods. Thanks for sharing.

to be built to a scale of 32'=1".

What scale is this? I mean how it can be translated to the 1/350, 1/700 and so on scale?

It means 1" on the model is equal to 32' in real life. To convert into a "normal" scale, first thing to do is make sure they in the same units.

So 32' is the same as (32'x12") = 384"

Thus, 1" on the model is equal to 384" on the real thing; thus, a scale of 1/384.

20'=1" is a lot larger than my normal scale of 32'=1" though. Large models like the MEMPHIS are very time-consuming for someone like me with not much patience.....

It took 122 hours to build, spread over 40 days. That is longer than anything I have ever produced! I will be glad to get back to smaller models again.....

I have bought Bob's CD describing how he created the Norwegian barque Svaerstad and knowing that every piece you see is totally scratchbuilt, from wood, brass and paper, is even more amazing. Pure work of art.

Hello Everyone,
I have arrived at last! Still feeling my way around. I have never looked in depth before and was pleasantly surprised.
Some of you know me on account of some of my model above - some don't.

I generally build Merchant ships. I have done a couple of warships, heavy cruiser HMS NORFOLK and HMS DREADNOUGHT (1906). Main reason for not building many is the fact that plans are quite scarce for the older types and I find that more modern ones were altered so much that it is difficult to pin down what a ship looked like in any particular year!

I am new here, so I'm still trying to take it all in!
I must say however that it is an absolute pleasant surprise to find this topic. I have been a fan a Bob's models for many years. I have marvelled at his techniques and results. But the most surprising thing of all is finding that building the way he does is much easier than it appears.

At the moment I am building the Glenmoor and have the hull finished using the plans and instructions in his latest CD.

It was such a breathe of fresh air to unchain myself from the shackles of model ship kits that this has become the future of ship modelling for me. I have already begun planing my next two projects after I finish Glenmoor. Besides I can fit many more models of this scale into my modest home.

robert..looking at your case makeing.. i did not get how you stuck in the base insde the case..or is it removeable !as i am in the process of copying you.. mike price..

Bob has completed another diminutive little vessel.....

The inner base is glued to a card base that is covered with green felt. The display case sits on the rim and is held in by screws driven up vertically through the green-felt-covered card and into the wooden moulding round the bottom of the display case - like this:
