Thank you for your encouraging words

..> Pride appears to come before a fall it seems !

After the neat spacing out of the boat racks using tape...
an error came to the fore;
P1030134.jpg
I had spaced out the racks from aft to fwd
I had assumed ( !! ) that the Spacings were even and symmetrical

They were not! :doh_1: :Mad_6:

In addition -- having failed to study these images more closely.... another error of mine showed up...

At least the retrograde steps were being vindicated to be replaced with a degree of betterment!
P1030149.jpg

More study of the liferaft racks was required

These are surprisingly complex--
the overhead locker was mounted straddling within the 2 x aft arches

after a seemingly disproportionate time spent fiddling around it started to be more to my liking!

I felt that the imperfections of the real thing could be replicated on my model after all!

I had been thinking about how to make the funnel with its distinctive cowl

Not having a lathe -watchmakers or otherwise ---
( or the required machining skill to create that shape )

I came up with this;

At least the build is going in forward gear again!

Nice solution to the funnel.

Hi Jim

Very creative in finding solutions, and not compromising the looks of the ship!
Also very educational :)

Carry on, carry on... Telford is just two weeks away!
Cheers

More small wins...

but cumulatively it brings one fwd....!

The Handrails--superfine PE -Nickle silver-and it stays fine and thin....
==>-as the real ship had these rails painted silver
--and the Nickel-Silver PE can remain unpainted!
The real thing is quite thin .

Thin railing longitudinals .jpg

The railings have been applied in small sections,

1) to allow them to adapt to and conform to the sheer-line of the ship
2) to guard against different ambient temperatures causing expansion and shrinkage of plastic versus metal
( previous negative experience when I built the Normandie...)

P1030191.jpg

For the upswept rails at the bow...-the sheerline increases sharply
The angle of the longitudinal rails steepens as one goes fwd to the bow
To maintain vertical stanchions--I prepared the sections like this below

note--this results in quite epic amounts of failure and waste PE !

P1030192.jpg

The taping at the base of the rails--simulating the waterway and the outside black trake is done with 0.3mm tape

P1030196.jpg

These 2 x images shows the Capstan bars stowed on the inboard face of the railings
DURoYT0US9QH0z6T.jpg
DURoYT0US9QH0z7T.jpg

These capstan bars..... to maintain perfect and even alignment to simulate being in a rack
were made of re-purposed PE....

P1030195.jpg
P1030193.jpg

The slight distortions of the longitudinal bars can be adjusted ( very fiddly ) with a scalpel blade tip and using gentle leverage
P1030194.jpg

Adding the details to the railings and cutting to allow the life-raft canisters
to be deployed took much fiddling , experimentation and some failures!

The large fairleads with rollers are still being worked on
