Hello Steve, I feel the same way too. I am not sure if mine are of later batch, which is usually inferior as the mould deteriorated.

For just one Bofors, I could managed to scratch build. Thanks for your kind words.

Hi Douglas,

Great job on the 40mm and 20mm - they look great! Also, thanks for the information on how you removed the kit railing - the only problem I think I would have is the tricky part with the tip of a blade between the rivets! I would probably slip and damage the surface! Still, I might give a try and see what happens.

I'm not hijacking your build...........but i wanted you to see the resin that i got from Nautilus. Great 5" mounts with little flash, unlike yours. Great whaleboats (not pictured). As for the 40mm...........I'm not sure. I need 2 for my build..........so I'm in a quandry. I see where White Ensign has some 144 twin Bofors in the pipeline. I might wait for those. I'm not in ANY hurry for them yet.



You and Old Red Devil are having all the fun right now. I thank you for sharing your build.

Use a brand new sharp blade knife and you won't slip. A real sharp knife is the key.

Your Nautilus 5" mount is really a lot better. I guess I bought it too late.

Nevermind, I guess mine (kit + Eduard + Nautilus) still look acceptable.

Very nice work on the funnel caps. The PE railings look very nice, better than my scratch built ones using stretched sprue! Does the PE set you are using include the rungs that go between the two railings?

The parts are actually very difficult to be twisted and to be glued onto the funnel top. I don't want to do it again but I need to do it for the after funnel.

No, I am afraid that is all available with the Eduard set.

I have here a direct comparison of the kit search light platform and that of Nautilus.

Be aware that the kit part braces are closer to correct than the Nautilus PE. Ended up scratching mine from Evergreen Plastic.

Aya, Les. Having read all the observations and advices by your experts, I would not use Nautilus parts for the search light platform.

Now the after platform for Bofors. I guess there is something missing. I will checked photos and might add something later.

And the bridge wing with the troublesome sink mark which I need to take care of before adding the Eduard PE parts.

Somehow I think the two supports are just too thick. I think I will cut it and replace by a rod of smaller diameter.

This is one of the best builds I've seen and the play by play photos are great and inspiring. Once I am a little further along with mine I will start a thread and put some photos up. But as I watch yours I see I have a long way to go. I am not as detailed as yours especially with the strutural railings.
Keep up the good work. I've learned a lot so far.

Thanks George, but, no, not at all. It is just I want to do some more at this scale. I've seen some others doing a lot more and better in 1/350 or even 1/700. I just try to build one to impress myself.

Great progress photos, looks very good. As you probably already know, the Revell kit part for the gun tub/shield is not entirely correct. The two long vertical rectangle shapes (ammo hoists?) at the aft of the tub are not completely formed on the kit part. Somehow, Revell got this part wrong. This can be corrected with some styrene, not too much trouble.

Also, I think that Chevalier carried the quad 1.1 gun only and was lost with this weapon, I don't think she ever had a 40mm, but I may be wrong about this (certainly would not be the first time). A smaller detail to think about is the speed light which Chevalier carried at the aft of the gun tub.

Great job, you are on course for a fantastic build.

I see in your work that there is something wrong with the gun shield. I checked and found that what you modified is actually correct. I will do the same as it is an easy job.

I am not sure if the Chevalier carried the 1.1 or 40mm bofors. I just don't have a clear photo on this. Would someone helps ?

NICHOLAS (DD-449), O'BANNON (DD-450), and CHEVALIER (DD-451) indeed carried the quad 1.1-in mount ... the only FLETCHERS to do so. CHEVALIER was lost with it and her two sisters returned to the west coast shortly afterwards and were updated to the five twin 40-mm mounts configuration ... they went through the war with only two basic configuration (had several 20-mm add-ons while equipped with the quad 1.1-in mount).
