Exactly..that�s the reason. It is intended for static only, so I don�t see the need to add multiple layers of resin and fiber glass. I�, pretty sure that I can get a far better look, using styrene only.

The hull is now half covered, and I�m very satisfied with the results. I had to quit the use of the "hot-air" gun, though. It helped bending the styrene, but it ended warping some parts, too.
As soon as I�m finished with the hull, I�ll post a picture or two, so that you can see the results for youselves.

I am watching also, I just only post on these scratchbuilding threads if I have questions after having studied your photos and read your descriptions.
Or if I think I might have reference material that can help you.

Thanks for all the input. Sometimes, specially when writting in this kind of foruns, it�s hard to tell, if we are reaching someone, or not...
Let�s go to what matters.... It seems that this "new" technique I�m using, is turning to be something better than what I expected. The plastic bends easily, I had no problems untill now. It will allow me to produce the kind of detail on the hull I was looking for.... Definetelly, I�ll be using this technique from now on...or, at least, while I�m only building static models...

Here�s how it looks now...



A "Before" and "After" look...It�s now 80/90 % complete, with the styrene covering.

Your heat-gun method of shaping the styrene seems to have worked very well! I might try this myself the next time I need to form a complex shape from styrene.

Beware !!! Proceed with caution !!!! I had to drop its use (as I�ve said in a previous post) as it tended not only to bend the styrene, but also to WARP it , which is not a good idea.....

Hi Jose I experienced a similar problem using large amounts of styrene sheet for a flight deck . Yet Bill uses styrene for the hull and successfully. Although the flight deck on the Moskva was well supported the plastic reacted to the slightest change in temperature but more especially sun light. Had to keep the model in a darkened room ? and sail it on a dull cold day , well a normal day in the North West of the UK anyway

The ship is now more than 90% covered in styrene. Next, I�m going to start adding detail to the lower hull, and after that, I�ll advance to the flight deck galleries.







As you can see in the last photo, I decided to use plastic putty (instead of styrene) to cover up all those round curves, in the hull sponsoons. In this case, I�m using Vallejo�s Liquid putty...And it�s working great...

Yes I will (the smaller ones)... But there are many that will be covered with, yet, more styrene...more to come over the next weeks...I hope.

Hull finished - 24 Oct 07

Just a small update, to let you all know that I�ve finished "closing" the hull with styrene.
Also, took the opportunitty to build some structures/rooms, under the flightdeck.



I�ve already started the final work on the hull, which will be to represent the hull plating.
More photos (hopefully) next weekend...
