Check out this thread on a self-published PDF book on Kirishima by Ed Low and Sander Kingsepp. The link to purchase is not working, but if you're interested, I can put you in touch with him: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=161273

Re: Calling All IJN Kongo-Class Fans
Need some help in regards to Aoshima's photo etch for their 1/350 Kirishima. Part 32 and 33 make up some type of box structures. Any idea what they are and where they go? Also, am trying to figure out what window frames go where. I have a good idea but would like some confirmation before I start bending brass. Thanks

Re: Calling All IJN Kongo-Class Fans
I am in the market for FUJIMI Kongo and Haruna kits in 1/350.
Fujimi is making several different kits of both of those two IJN ships, with significant difference in price (by up to 30% between versions) but so far I was not able to find out what exactly is the difference between various Fujimi kits of Kongo battleship.
Please, could someone explain the main differences between various Kongo kits (in 1/350) by Fujimi?
The same questions goes for various 1/350 Fujimi Haruna kits.

Have you reviewed the kit listings on page one of this thread?

I did, but I need more detailed insight into those kits, what additional parts (sprues) are added to some of those editions (like AA guns and other equipment), etc ...
Without those spec. data I don't know how to tell if those more expensive Kongo/Haruna kits are worth their much higher price.

600499 : kongo with new AA armament sprues (better than early editions, detailed lower)
600437 : kongo without new armament sprues but with wooden deck
600284 : kongo without new armament sprues but with full photoetch set and deck masking
600079 : kongo without new armament sprues but with full photoetch set
600000 : kongo early edition without new armament sprues, nor photoetch, nor wooden deck, nor deck masking

Re: Calling All IJN Kongo-Class Fans
Great, that's exactly a kind of data I was looking for about each version, many thanks for help!
So, none of Fujimi Kongo 1/350 kits does not include metal barrels for main armament.
As I intend to use Sky Hawk or Pontos PE sets for Kongo anyway, does it matter in that case if I purchase basic initial 600000 kit, or a most recent one 600499 with new AA armament sprues?
I mean, I suppose that both Sky Hawk and Pontos PE sets already include all parts and details
needed for that AA armament anyway. In that case kit 600499 offer no advantage over 600000 kit. Right? Wrong?
Btw. what do you mean by "detailed lower" remark?

Re: Calling All IJN Kongo-Class Fans
hello,
"detailed lower" was refering to lower lines relative to my 1st explanation line. lower lines were simply earlier editions, and not refering to lower detail of parts.
concerning metal barrels : that's something I didnt mentioned. I know that 600079+600284 have 127mm barrels only. 600000 has main battery barrels only, but those have a strange wrong shape. I threw them away and bought aber or master model ones (don't remember).
600437+600499 ? don't seem to be included.
and relative to photoetch set : any set will be adapted.
however, if you dont already bought a set, a pricewise choice is to buy 600079 or 600284, if you still can find one. they normally have a price somewhat equivalent to normal versions.

Thanks, why 600604 has such a high price compared to other versions?

Re: Calling All IJN Kongo-Class Fans
Over here (EU) just 600000 and 600499 are available most of a time on a regular basis, but at this time no other versions. Did not get any PE set yet, first I will get Kongo and then PE set will follow.
If I get PE set w/o barrels then I will get Master Model barrels.
At the moment I just have several books about IJN in general and one Kongo related title, "Japanese Battleship Kongo (Super Drawings in 3D)".

Re: Calling All IJN Kongo-Class Fans
What exactly is the content differences between these three Flyhawk detail sets for Kongo 1/350 by Fujimi?
Flyhawk 350021 set for 1/350 IJN Kongo 1944
Flyhawk 350164 Super set for 1/350 IJN Kongo 1944
Flyhawk 380001 Glod Medal Edition set for 1/350 IJN Kongo 1944
Flyhawk web site does not help much regarding that matter (sets content).
Also, are there some other manufacturers PE sets for 1/350 Kongo beside Flyhawk?

Re: Calling All IJN Kongo-Class Fans
I'm not entirely sure of the entire contents of the packages.
FH38001 was released to support the original kit.
FH35021 may be an updated version
FH35064 is supposed to be used in conjunction with FH35021
At one point, Pontos had an extensive superset for Kongo 1944.
WEM has a more basic set for the class.

Which seems to be geared mostly for Kongo herself.Dan K wrote:WEM has a more basic set for the class.
