I've done that Timmy.

The PE fret, which is for QE 1943, comes with the Type 285 radar antennae for the HACS directors along with some ladders, but not the 281 which sits atop the mastheads. The full instructions aren't shown, and it's hard to make out for sure from the Painting & Marking guide if they really have the 285 antennae in place atop the directors - but it looks so. Type 285 didn't enter service until 1941.

So if the instructions DO call for the antennae, then that's wrong for 1939.. but it would then help those who might want to build the kit in a later fit.

I guess we'll see.

I got this kit last Friday. I'm really no expert but looking at the parts break down it looks like you can build it as a waterline already if you want to. The bottom hull is a separate part.

Yeah, I know all of this already but I was curious if they might do a dedicated waterline version with a bottom plate. That's how I'd like to build mine. I thought about using an extra plate from one of the standard kits, they're cheap enough to cannibalize one. In any case, it's a nice looking kit from some of the early builds I've been seeing on Twitter.

Hobby Search is listing an EX-series Musashi from Fujimi, which is not like the new NX model. It's the standard 1:700 kit with deck decals. Fujimi is one company that maximizes their tooling, so one could hope we'll see the NX kit in some different versions.

Upcoming from Pit Road is a full-hull IJN Tachibana in 1/700th:

But the lower hull is not the big difference from their previous kit of the same ship. Check out, in the built-up photos, the launching ramp and minisub at the stern. (EDIT: Oops ... kaiten is what I meant)

Got my Fujimi NX-1 Yamato kit today from Japan. It's excellent, one of the best IJN Yamato kits ever produced in my opinion. Puts even most of the other new-tool Yamato kits from the past 15 years to shame. Lots of surface detail. Moulded in color, with great use of slide-tooling in breaking down and engineering the parts for minimal joint/seam exposure. Not bad for a snap-together kit, and the price is right!
