Model Warship Meet in Yokosuka

Post by Gone Asiatic »

The Mindanao Sea Model Society is getting together in Yokosuka 2~3 June near CFAY main gate.
I discovered this browesing a Modelwarship magazine at a Tsutaya here in Yokohama. The venue is the second floor of a convention hall right across from the ???Koban ~?Police Box) on route 16 - the ?????. I believe there are a few Japan based members who might have interest. :cool_2:

For some reason, they have not updated their webiste to reflect this - I intend sending an email with inquiries. I`ll update this post with anything I learn.

Their website:

More info and an info flyer announcing the event.

You can bring your own kits to display - must bring them between 0900-1200 on Saturday and remove between 1600-1700 Sunday (3rd of June). If I get Saturday off, might bring Commodore Dewey`s Asiatic Squadron as well as an assortment of garage kits (Yumematsu, 104 KousakuBu) and an S-Models Peiyang Fleet kit I`m 75% completed

- No entrance cost or kit display cost.
- Whereas warships are the prime interest, other genres of kits can be displayed

Hope to see some Modelwarships.com members there! :wave_1:

Provided I have Saturday off (I`m anticpating such) I`ll be there from 0900 with my kits.
Do you int nd to bring a digi-camera? My Finance Minister doesn`t appear to want to approve the supplemental budget for a purchase (I lost her digi-cam last year :bash_2: ). Would be ashame not to photograph the entries and upload them to Modelwarships. Perhaps some under the radar procuremet manuevering is in order consdering the circumstances

What a great night! I got to swing by for a few minutes. Gone Asiatic has some great pictures he's going to load up. I got to go out and talk via drawings on napkins all night. We shared different methods of mounting models, bending PE, painting, and lots others via napkins and pointy-talk. What a great time.

The model meeting was awesome as was the nomikai  . Will soon upload pics :cool_2:

All the kits made it safely home with exception of those I had stored in a metal box.
SMS Emden, Dupuy, and Akatsuki will require an SRA.

Here is one of the ships included in the exhibit. It was a WIF of a Soviet battleship in 1/700. It's a prodcut of the Soviet Kirov, the Japanese battleship Yamato, and the Soviet Slava. Maybe this might have been what the Soviets could have produced if they had taken Japan in WWII? What a great product.

Next there are a couple WIF battleships. It seems a merger between the Kongo BB and the Kongo DDG. Awesome!
smallYokosuka Meet 2 021.jpg
Next we have the Super Yamato with the 20" guns and an Iowa/Yamato merger.

For the carrier boys, here is a small group of CVE and CVLs.

Here is the USS Mustin, a Dragon model. She's one of the DDGs out here in Japan.

This particular model was fantastic in its detail. There were all kinds of rigging and mast details...how great.

Great shots, Dave!
The detailing in this latest set is incredible. And fascinating, at least to me, at the same time. The antenna rigging atop #2 turret, the single deck guns whose fields of fire are blocked by the catapults, the antenna wire attachments on the aft stack that are apparently out of reach for potential repair, the asymetrical stack tops, fascinating.
