After the intense journey involving much research and scratchbuilding that was the HMCS Chambly corvette, I decided to relax with a kit that looks to be well-researched and complete - a straight OOB endeavour.

Here's how she looks right now:

This is also my attempt at making a deep green water. I only wish that the different shades I put in the water would be more evident without needing to use flash.

Looks good so far. Is that all 1 piece? I'm kind of interested in grabbing one or two of these S-Model kits, any flash or problems of note?

Quite a few pieces, actually - hull halves (port/stbd), main deck, forward structure deck + two halves of the bulkheads, aft structure deck + two halves of the bulkheads. Two small detail pieces on the deck of the forward structure.

Fit is okay, but I had some seams at the stern that needed puttying. Mold seams on the turrets also need to be cleaned up.

Criticism: kit provides brass barrels, but to use them you need to cut off the turrets' molded-on barrels and drill a hole for them.

That's not that big of a deal. Looks well cast from the review. Can't believe the price! About $20 including FULL PE. All you need to add is paint and brass masts!

Latest update - finished putting on/together the bow fittings and flying deck. The compound curves for the flying deck railings were very challenging - 30 minutes spent on each side before they would fit!

One of the drawbacks to the kit is that the anchor hawse openings are moulded with the covers closed, making it impossible to accurately depict anchor chains without scraping off the covers. If I had noticed this earlier, I would have done so, but alas, it is too late.

Very nice work with the flying deck Timmy. About the hawse opening covers, many of those covers had a smaller hole in the back so it could be use over lashed down anchor hawsers. This way the openings would be reasonably spray tight under way while the whole opening could be used when at anchor giving the hawsers the freedom to move with the current. The picture of Ting Yuen on cityofart.net (strange collection of opinions, that, but I digress) shows those covers open and closed on Ting Yuen.

If you want to have your Ting Yuen underway you can simply drill a hole on the back part of each cover and attach your hawser chain from that point.

Today, spent two hours putting together the ship's wheel. Ended up being 7 parts in total, since I had to cut the axle in half due to the hole in the middle set of wheel+post being clogged with glue.

One of our group of modelers has built this one, It had missing the rat lines on this kit, hope you have yours ok.

Thank you, gentlemen! I only wish I had time to make the masts out of brass, instead of the clunky plastic. Alas, I only have 2 more weeks before moving, so have to get it done by then.

Well, here she is in her completed glory - could've done more/better, but time constraints, lack of good resources for detailing and rigging, and the desire to just get on with it got in the way.

Sails made with white glue filling the spaces in the PE footropes.

Simply beautiful! I have the kit and I know how small it is. I take my hat off to you sir!
