New to ship building, but here is some build progress. A lot was of ideas were taking from Timm an Ed. Using Gold Medal PE and WEM paint for the measure 21. Also stealing parts from Dragon's Uss Benson were I can. Going by Floating Dry Dock's Buckley class CD.

Nice! This is one of the many unfinished kits I have laying around. I'm going to do her in dazzle, eventually.

Nice work. I can tell you did a lot of sanding on the hull. I've built a few of these and the lower hull needs tons of work to look like yours. Also your build is nice and neat so far. Keep up the good work and welcome back to modeling.

I agree, have this one half built and yours looks just the ticket(right).

Get on with it and watching with Interest .

Thanks all for the kind words. Well I've bought the kit twice now just to finish 1, so I am screwing up a lot. Half my time time spent looking for parts I dropped, so my hat is off for ship modelers. Was building large scale armor, so this is a change. I think my next project will be a 1/350th PT boat. Even this little DE is a detail hog.

Rear 3" gun island. Front and rear gun stops added. Some K-Gun arbors were removed to make room for the door and latter.


Mast mix of WEM and GMM PE. Forgot the combat lights though.

Most of the major assemblies are in place. I don't see much contrast between the Deck Blue and Navy Blue. They seem to match when the verticals are in shadow and the horizontal surfaces are in direct light. Next will all railings, guns, and the deck detail.
The Trumpeter looked like a crappy kit at first, but it really builds well. I had no fit issues except for the hull.

You have done a very nice job on your England and I have enjoyed following along with your build. Droping small parts on the floor is a natural part of being a ship builder.

Your building sequence is very impressive and I'll be using it. The only thing I wonder about is getting the hedgehog detail in place with the blast shield at least partially obstructing it. But your work is excellent and the only errors I see are kit details.

The problem I had with the build sequence was with mounting the mast. Luckily I hadn't glued down the bridge and could pop that off and mount the bridge and mast together. If the bridge was glued down you would have had to bend the mast a bit which, I think, would have popped off or bent the large ladder. The Hedgehogs should have been installed a long time ago and I was looking at Timm's build and there is not much space as you pointed out. I may leave the lid off and try to slide it in separately, so thanks for the heads up. I would have built it whole then would have to chisel off guides.

They built a lot of DEs not far from where I live, and one of these days I would like to do one. I hope it comes out as well as this.

Four of the 20mm in place around the bridge. The big problem I had was the kit's deck mounts for the 20mm's sat up too high. Each had to be drilled flush to the deck which was pain at this stage. I should have checked much this earlier in the build. It would have also allowed me to move the front 20mm's more forward. Shield on the lower side one needs straightened too.

Chicago Piano


50 #79 reharpened carbide drill bits off Ebay for $12. They are super delicate, but cut through about any material like butter and don't wander.


Think these are some of the last pieces to go on yet. The Capstan Brake Wheel is mounted on .2mm stainless wire. Waiting for the 26' Whale Boat yet.
