1/350 RICHELIEU Dakar 1940-41

HI all
for changing , I attack a "little"diorama of Richelieu in the harbor Dakar
still a Richelieu.. yes, but before its modernization

the first step , in anticipation of the cutting water line,I install stiffeners
Then, I trace my cutting line with a marking gauge
"trepanation" with a circular blade
planing with sandpaper( for a flat surface)
one test for the diorama
that's all for the moment
Cheers
Nicolas

Very cool, but you're doing
another one?!
Is she gonna get the same insanely amazing superdetail treatment as the other one?

HI Chanell
tank you for the comment

my second Richelieu is very different .In its original state , he had a aviation hangar, catapults ,and many different details on the superstructures, and anti-aircraft weaponry different
I'll try to give it the same treatment
cheers

hello
thank you for the comment and I am happy ,you make another mounting
I use a circular blade which apparently serve to taxidermist (it cuts to the bone!!)
but , the speed must be low, otherwise the plastic coming reluctantly Behind the cut
best regards
Nicolas

mhhh....i'm starting to think that someone is a little "Richelieu addicted"...nha, it's just my immagination....
if you are going to do the same treatment and with the huge amount of de-modernization operation requested it will be a must-to-follow wip.

Hi all
the same time, I continued working on my richelieu 1940.I glued a hull bottom in the plasticard
I removed all the ugly fairleads, bollards...., molded on the hull
I still have the bridge, I'm going to be with the wooden bridge, or with engraved planks evergreen,I hesitate
see you soon ,for the new stage
cheers

Trumpeter, I suppose.
Interesting reinforcements.
In his other work of Richelieu, there is a good job on the deck. Perhaps now wooden deck.

Hi nicolas
Where did you get drawings or plans of the non modernised richelieu. I have excelent drawings in 1:100 from the muse de la marine and a book, but they do not show premodernisation details. Did not found detailed fotos too. The 1:350 kit i build earlier also provided no info, though i tried to redo it a bit (but not nearly as detailed as yours). I now might build in 1:128, but then i really want better plans!

Hello Nicolas, Looking good so far. I waterline all my builds and looks like you got it right. I also like doing displays. Maybe you should consider adding a surcouf to the other side of the dock. I'm pretty sure it would look great with the battleship. Either way looking forward to your progress.
Regards
Paul

You are a brave man--building the same ship--again--albeit in a different fit...
Excellent workmanship as ever--
Look forward to seeing this progress...

Hello
JIM
brave man or a little mad,I do not know, but I have re-signed
Christian
for me the Jean Bart ,is a Richelieu that was poorly finished
just before my holidays in England,I worked on the bridge
I rebuilt all the decks in plastic card, they are lower, such as on bow( blues arows)
Indeed I will, for once, use a wooden deck.
I will take advantage, to represent the "gutter" which runs around the periphery of decks
but for the moment ,I drink a pint or two to your health
cheers
Nicolas

Hi Nicolas,
a good start so far with the ship, but do you have still a plan how to arrange the quayside?

HI Christian
I start to have a idea of the arrangement of this quay , quay which is called in French" quai des escales "
I wait the pictures,a friend going to send me ....I wait
I can focus a little more, on the diorama, because a lot of pieces that I made ??for my "first Richelieu",are going to be reused
see you soon

There is an inspiring build of Heller's kit of
Richelieu as of the Summer of 1940 that can be found at
http://forummarine.forumactif.com/t5264 ... ller-1-400 A very nice model by a French modeller ('Caravelle'), which once again vindicates the 30-years old Heller kit against Trumpeter's botched attempt
A few pics taken from that website Forum Marine, in French language but well worth a visit):

Hello
OK jean -Paul for the old Heller kit ,just forms, but with of details which accuses their age!!!the 400em scale , in my eyes,is a living dead, too Franco-French!!
one talented model maker Estonian ,has made a version 1940 starting from the Richelieu of trumpy at 350,a true marvel
this is in Russian, but the pics speaks of them even, here is the link to his article
http://scalemodels.ru/articles/5768-Tru ... -goda.html
for mine,I'm almost at the end of my research iconographic
cheers

Hello Gent's
my iconographic research is finished ,therefore, the mounting restarts!!
in first ,the portholes present on the hull, are clogged with the mastic
and then sanded
I will do as my other richelieu, of parts that allow of modify the 1943 kit of trumpeter in version 1940
for that purpose,I assemble the original bridge
but for me ,I redo entirely ,the bridge in the plastic card (I use a wooden bridge)
for convenience,I detached the "barbette" of the turret of 380 and the vent bloc
here is where I am tonight
see you later
Cheers
nicolas
