Is the following possible?

other than the obvious what would i require

(by obvious i mean: remote, reciever, motor, battery etc)

anything special to make the boat float? ie extra styrofoam?

Here is a great website to do just that with the venerable Lindberg Diesel Tug kit:

This is a great first step into the world of R/C scale model ships.

I've converted a Revell Flower corvette to RC, quite easy, just make sure you get your entrance points big enough....

There are a few modelers on RCGroups.com who are modifiing Lindberg, Revell, Tamiya, and even Toys. Check in the Scle Boat forum.
