Man I have to try this. I have seen so many beautiful ships and friendly people since my return to ship modeling.

I have numerous tools and enthusiasm but...
I need help down sizing plans and or drawings to different scales. I there a formula?
I will be doing waterline ships to start in 1/1200 WWI.
Balsa and card will be most of the materials. ( avoiding photo etch 1.D overpriced parts )
Money is an issue right now because that's life sometimes.

Please help.

Hi Roger,

The key to understanding how to resize drawings and plans is to understand how to work with scales - you might find this tutorial of interest: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=33867

It very easy. You need to multiply the measurements from the drawing by a constant. That constant is "scale you have" divided by "scale you need"

So for a 1:200 model and 1:72 drawings that factor is 72/200 = 0.36.

I have a calculator that can store constants for easy work and sometimes write this factor on the drawing I am working with.

Thank you so much guys. I dusted off a decent calculator. Timmy C. I feel the need to go to PM hobbies and get some balsa. And other supplies.
Now for drawings, There's stuff on the internet I suppose....I want to build the Emden as a first project.

Thank you all again. -Roger

Hey Guys, I have been messing around with scale conversions and resizing plans etc.

I am going to scratchbuild at a larger scale cuz 1200 is just going to be too small.
Maybe 1/350 would be the smallest and more practical for me.

I'll let ya know how things go.

Ah, you live in Calgary as well! Have we met, possibly at the AMMS show?

The good thing about 350th is that you can use the Revell kit of the Emden as a template/double-check for your scratchbuild. Good luck with it!
