My Corsair finished. Sort of satisfied with the results although it was trying at times. Now that I have an idea of what NOT to do I may try another sailing ship, or two.





Comments and/or criticisms welcome.

Beautiful!!

Very well done. I would have liked the sails a bit more yellowy, more dirty, and more rigging.
The sea is excellent from what i can see, and i can't comment on figures as i am not compatible with them...

working on a 1/350 Cutty Sark and it's getting the better of me....

This was my first attempt at a sailing ship, so I'll keep that in mind if I try another. As for rigging, I followed the rigging pattern in the instructions (although they probably are simplified for my benefit!) as well as using the box art as a further guide. I Googled for further reference, but apparently the rigging was quite simple on ships with lateen rig. The crew are Preiser N scale (model railroad) figures I painted up to look like pirates.

The colours are very nice, and the poses of the figures work very well; as if they are sailing past their prey and challenging them!
The water looks excellent also. How did you do it?

The water is part me, and part sargentx. I made the basic water shape including the swell, from Celluclay, to a depth of about 1 cm. (this takes several days to dry!). Then brushed with acrylic gel, and sprinkled bran on top. When dry, stuck on bits of paper towel, and smoothed out with more gel. When dry, airbrushed shades of blue, followed by several coats of clear ultra gloss acrylic gel, or varnish. The more coats, the better, as it gives the illusion of depth. (ie; don't paint the surface of the water after final varnish - paint first, then add varnish).
