Good day fellow modellers.

Im going to share with you a WIP I have been working on for the last two years. Its a mexican ferry that sailed in the Sea of Cortes between La Paz y Mazatlan since 1974 until 2008. Named MN Coromuel, sister of two identical other ships, MN Azteca and MN Puerto Vallarta. I travelled many times on board them. I fell in love hit her, as she is quite pretty on the looks!.
She was build in Jos L Meyer shipyards in Papemburg Germany.
I leave some real images and i will tell some more history along with new posts.
model is 1/100 scale








CAD designed frames are laser printed.









Design is completely by hand. Pencil, ruler, drawings.






spaces are filled with expanded polystyrene


imagine the mess after sanding.




wood filler is used to give rigidity to the hull.


once dried and sanded, gloss paper is used, (like magazine paper) and white glue layers are used to seal the hull and add strength. 3 layers where added.

hull hand rails placed. this rails were used to evacuate certain locations of the ship trough the windows and out to the exterior.

unfortunately she was scrapped at Alang. Her sister Azteca scrapped in chittagong back in 2004 and last one Puerto Vallarta survived scrapping until 2009 in Mazatlan Mex, but being laid up since 2004

Great to see another merchant ship. Very inovative way for this rather unusual hull shape, with great results so far! Now comes the more tedious detailing job I guess.

Are you going to buy the propellors and shafts? or construct them yourself?

Wanted to know, do you cover the cardboard with something so that the lights are visible only through the windows/portholes and do not shine through the cardboard (since paper which is transparent for light). Or thick cardboard + paint is not transparent anymore? What sources of light do you use?

Hello!!

light source is LED both warm white and cold white for the exterior. Cardboard is quite thick, no need to treat it with anything special. Light is confined to small spaces per LED to maximize luminosity trough the windows. The windows are actually covered with clear plastic and translucent paper.

yes.. hardest is to come regarding details.. railings davits, uff.. lots of work to do. I tried to do a 3d printed propeller but is way too small for it to be feasible. so i think im going to build them out of the same materials

Hi Alfredhpg, nice indeed, be keeping a very close eye on your progress build, gives me ideas for my build, actually was thinking of your ship, till I found my ship, I am into model trains will work well with my layout.
