Hello,

While Im waiting on WEM's 1/700 trains to arrive from NNT, I concentrated on my capital rebuilding of a Revell's Esso Glasgow to portray a generic italian 1/350 scale tanker. I never had any scratchbuilding projects so far, so I got 2 questions now.

First: I am building a funnel now. I dont have any plans however, only photos as reference, and on no photo I can see a detailed funnel cap. How they looked like on late 30es merchants? Gitter-like as on the warships? How to scratchbuild one?

Second: while removing the molded-on railings, I damaged the raised panel lines of the hull plating. So I am going to rebuild the plating structure. How to do it? Any tips? Also... Im showing her empty, riding high in the water... so was the plating different below the CWL?

About the hull plating you mentioned, you mean like the one in the Tamiya Fletcher hull?

Your best bet is probably to ask on the Debris Field, a site for merchant ship modellers, there's some pretty knowledgable tanker builders on there.
