A source of thin brass wire

Try looking for transformers and winding wire. I found some wire from Avisor, from 0.1mm and up in steps of 0.1mm. This wire is lacquered, I have yet to find out its soldering characteristics. I bought a few reels 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3mm (I use styrene from 0.3mm up). The 0.1mm reel is supposed to have over 700m. Should be enough!

Where did you find them? Somewhere in the Amsterdam/Amstelveen area I hope? I'd love to have some 0,1 and 0,2 for rigging.

Hello- I have found the wire within the security cards used at business's to allow access to the rooms inside the building has .004" wire used in the coil. I have several of these dead cards that have gracefully gave up the wire for my models.

You can find lots of thin wire in electric motors or transformers, or simple coils. But, this is a source of consistent thickness and you don't have to demolish old electronic gear. And you now have first-grade fully-deoxygenated cupper

Now I have to find a source of bending tools... I managed to go without brass wire up to now.

What do these cards look like? Surely not the run-of-the-mill magnetic striped cards?

Detail Associates, a model train company, make brass wire down to .006", available at most hobby and train shops.

They look like a credit card but thinker. They have a slot cut in 1 end to hang from a snap clip. There are 2 faces laminated together. The small spool of wire is on the inside. I have peeled apart several old cards and removed the wire. It is NOT the Detail Associates .006 brass ROD wire. This stuff is so fine you can hardley see it. But, in 1/700 scale it works out to 2.8 inches, 1/350th is 1.4", 1/200th is .8", 1/72 is .28", etc.

I used in the past bell wire here in the UK, the thinnest copper wire I could find.

If you strip down co-axial TV aerial cable or high power speaker cable you will find this is a source of copper wire that is approx 0.2mm diameter. I think this is too thick for much rigging, but is very useful for other things nonetheless.

But I'm going to order some of that stuff from Holland.
