Well I'm starting on my first resin kit. USS Doyle, Oliver Hazard Perry class frigate. The kit is from Yankee Model Works, very nice kit. This will be for my nephew who is on board now, he is taking his "twenty and out" soon, and all ready is planning a big party. It's going to be a surprise, so I don't want to contact the ship. The kit is as built, that means some scratch building to update her.

There was a little minor damage. Almost all the bollards are broken off, and the spray wall at the port hanger was nicked.

Working on the spray wall with some scrape from the sawing.

The flare on the bridge is upside down. Removed the flare and the cranes from the front of the bridge

I'm glad to see that you've started the FFG, Bob! Please keep all of us up-to-date with your progress like you did with your Monterey model.

Let me know if you need any FFG photo references. I think that I gave you all that I had of the Doyle, though.

Thanks NukeMM, I may need some later, I've scoured the web and found quite a few photos. Do need four 50 cal. guns. Know of any in 1/350 scale? The FFGs are basicly under armed since the Navy has dropped the Standard missle. They are now ASW only. I hear that Doyle is now in Scapa Flow.

BTW, I'm following Your Iowa build, very nice. I'm not much on morden ships.

I was wondering if you were disappointed after buying this kit and then ACADEMY coming out with a re-tooled 1/350 plastic OHP kit?

Thanks Carl. Yea, that kind of always seems to happen to me. Just after I dump the money, a better choice shows up. But, I pre-ordered the ACADEMY kit. We'll see which one is better. I do like the YMW kit. It will be some work to bring her up to FlightIIIA from early FlightII, which is what I think this kit is.

I do like the work You are doing on BB61. I can't stand 1/700 any more, it's much too small, and I hate doing everything over to get things done.

Hiya Bob,
I am just awaiting some missing parts to arrive, then i will start my build, my bollards escaped with little damage, a couple of lifrafts were unseated, but nothing major or unfixable.
I look forward to your progress

No... But I've been thinking of picking up a set of water cooled ones from WEM, and replacing the barrels with some SS micro tubing or rod. BTW, two are mounted on the bridge roof where what looks like target desingnators are in early photos. The other two are at the stern, maybe only mounted when in use.

I just ordered the WEM "Arleigh Burke" set of photo etch, it looks like there are four 50 cals on that set. And I get to use some of the other parts.

Agreed! How did you do that?

Thanks Martin and Devin. Just turned it on my 7 x 14 mini lathe. I've had it for a few years, For working parts for my 1:20 scale live steam trains.

Some progress correcting vent and hood locations and adding small stuff like hatches.
