Ahoy All,

I'm happy to have joined this very interesting group. I have found many truly awesome works within. I work on many different model from plastic store bought kits to scratch building wooden vessel from the past. I have dabbled with armor and aviation but always find myself drawn back to the ships.

Enough said for that...on to my first project on this forum. I decided to attempt Dragon's USS Laffey DD-459 1/700 kit. This in part is my desperate attempt to create a fleet for my workspace at work, without taking up an immense amount space.

As you know this is an interesting kit...the are two models for the price of one! This way I can also have one at home as well. The parts are extremely tiny and can shoot far distances real easy with the squeeze of the tweezers. I recommend lots of masking tape when removing the small parts. By no stretch am I great at this, yet, but with a few more years of practice and with the help from others I am sure it will come around.

With all that here are my first set of pics. Thanks for visiting!

ello there, smoking is no good to you - when do you actually decide to paint the PE, I normally spray mine, bend into shape and then touch up with the rest of the ship, also, can we have some close-ups please.

Thank you.

aleccap, I am working on the habit....As for the PE, i like to paint it first as well. However the kit supplied PE is a postage stamp and I just proceeded. I am going to order some 1/700 PE form one of the sites to enhance the lack of railings for the ship and any other goodies that may come along with it ( most likely to replace the blown off pieces from air brushing)

Thank you for the welcome Gordon. I was trying to get started this weekend, but with Thanksgiving, weddings, house work/activities, kids that leaves me with.......Yeah, Sunday afternoon. Oh well. If you rush it's not a hobby...

Regards,
T

Thanks for the welcome Matt. Been trying the easiest way to find peoples projects, I am failing. I end up with the entire list of everything on the site. I'll figure it out sooner or later.

Thanks again,
T

Looks good T. After you put the final touches on your builds, what are you going buy next?

Gordon,

I was thinking my fathers ship, The USS Randolph, again. I made it a while back. I made the 40's version. I was thinking of getting the Dragon kit and scratch building the up dates onto it into the 60's version. It to falls in the 1/700 class. I really want to do the Misssouri in 1/350, but I have the Titaninc (Acadamy), Arizona fixes (revel), Constitution (scratch Built wood) a Triton hull section (scratch)...wife will kill me.

Thanks,
T
