Hi Rob,
>>Anyway I made enquires of the National maritime Museum only to find that to get the plans would cost me nearly 700 which is a bit beyond my budget and so I was wondering if anyone here could help out with either of these?
I am surprised that the total cost was so high! I presume that you have had a quote from Graham Thompson at the NMM?
Is this quote for EVERYTHING they have on these two ships?
I generally find that a couple of sheets are enough to complete a model, viz - 'profile and upper deck ' and 'lower deck and sections'.
Have just ordered the above in 1:48 scale for HMS Shikari an 'S' class Admiralty DD of 1919 vintage. I also included the sheet of 'shell expansion' this time as all the rivet and apertures are required. ( engine room inlet/outlets etc).
At GBP 14.40 per sheet I consider the cost reasonable. The additional GBP 32.75 P&P is avoided as a sister lives close by and she goes and picks them up for me. I suppose that if I included the latter then I would consider the plans too expensive.
I have tackled the NMM more than once, as a contributor and member, on the above average cost of their services. The answer is always the same and I cannot fault it. Time taken plus cost of reproduction etc.
I was over there again personally last October to research the files on any and all IJN related material, (it was cheaper and more thorough than doing it by email) and can only admire and wonder at the extremes the staff are going to to update, digitise and catalogue the 4 miles of hard copy they have to deal with. An on-going project that will take forever to complete and a bottomless pit financially.
I regret that I am unable to give a link or reference to an accurate source of authoritive plans other than the NMM. If you can wait, ( I will be over there again next year - just loathe the 27 hour flight

) I will be more than happy to procure sufficient material for you to build an accurate model of your ship(s) and it will not cost you more than 50 quid.
Somewhere I think I have the MM plans for her that my son built many moons ago. Cartoon scale without the detail. If these are of any use for reference I will send them over.
Happy hunting!
