How do you find out what amp rating you need to use for your speed controller, is it off the motors or the battery or both? If it is taken from the motors would you suggest using one for each motor or one with a high ampage that could cope with all the motors being used (I will be fitting two)

Connect up you motor when its running put your amp meter on it, now with 2 bits of wood put these either side of the shaft and bring it to a stop. The reading that you get from the amp meter is the stall current reading, this is the max amout that your speed contrler will need to be .

If it's any consolation, my speed controllers on the Vic are rated 15 amp. These run one motor each, two Bullah 500 and one Bullah 800 with 50mm 3 blade props on the 500 motors and 50mm 5 blade prop on the 800. These are ample to push along 8ft of ship that weighs in at around 60lbs when fully ballasted. The Bullah motors are low reving high torque and draw no more than 5 amps under load, at full power
