Just Crusin' - January 2012 to September 2012

I'd like to propose the following group build:

Rules:
Any cruiser(light or heavy), any scale, any medium(plastic, resin, wood etc), any era, any fit, OOB or Full Detail, as many entries as you want to build.
Anything goes, so long as, historically, the ship was offically classified some type of cruiser during its career.
I'll even allow you to have a ship already started before January but it must be finished by the end of September.
However, if you go the above route, you can only have the model completed 85% or less by the first of January. Some work and finishing has to take place in the January to Sept. time frame.

I'm not sure if I want to make this a contest but we could, though I'd be participating in the build, I wouldn't be eligible for the contest. I have a Griffon 1/144 U-Boat VIID PE set I could offer as a first prize. I think I'd do judgeing by posting a poll and let everyone on the board vote on who's is the best for a few days, come October.

Assuming I'm not finished it by the time the contest starts, I'll enter my Bronco 1/350 Chih-Yuen Imperial Chinese cruiser.

Under the current criteria, I can enter Maya, which I will.

Why wait until March to begin?

I'll enter with one (or more) of the IJN Katori-class light cruisers in 1:700 scale.

In late 2011, Aoshima issued new molds of two of the three ships in this class and a third release is pending. Katori builds OOB as an early-war version of these ships. Kashima builds OOB as a late-war version, dropping some armament in favor of increased AA. And Aoshima is releasing the third ship of the class, Kashi, with a documented dummy second funnel in early 2012. A great on-going discussion of this class at: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=24937.

And here is my early review of the Kashima kit and accessories: viewtopic.php?f=53&t=83547, with links within for photos of box art, PE, and other accessories.

I'm going to try and finish this Akagi that I've put off for the past year and a half and I figure two months is a good time for the participants to purchase a kit and PE for the group build if they don't have something already. I don't know why, but I've been really looking forward to the Yahagi quite a bit, but I really want to get this Akagi finished and not box it up again.

Really, why shall wait till March?
Once a USS Farenholt is done, i'm planning to start building Tamiya 1/350 Mogami (1942). I would be glad to make it in frame of this group build.

I altered the date due to feedback, upon thinking about it, it did seem pointless to wait just for me. We'll start the new year off with the group build. I just won't start my build until later. I did modify the having a ship already started rule, I would like some building to take place during the time frame and not enter a fully completed ship.

The only crusier I have is Trumpeter's 1/350 USS San Francisco which I started three and a half years ago. I only work on it when I don't want to work on "anything " else that is on the bench and that's because of all the fit problems.

Here's a picture of how she looks today and if you think she is within the build parameters stated in the rules, I"ll join the GB with her and with any luck, I might ger her finally finshed.

If I can enter Maya, then I would think your SF is just as eligible.

Are "Auxiliary Cruisers" in scope, or just purpose built warships?

Just curious. What about WIFs that would fall into the "cruiser" category?

I see that me and my USS San Francisco have been added to the list of participants, so I guess were are in the GB. I did some quick calculations and figure that if I work two hours one night a week for the nine months of the GB,that will be 72 hours of building time, which should be more than enough time to get her done in the alotted time.

If this GB becomes a contest, I don't wish to participate in that portion of the GB.

See you in January.
