Tobori wrote:I look forward to the updated set and docs. As is, I feel this set is too confusing and difficult to work with and decided to stash this project until you update it. It's a shame because I looked forward to building this kit with the Pontos set, saved up the big bucks, and now have to abandon it until this set is "finished". Please keep us updated when any updates/upgrades are available for shipping.
As I mentioend above, correction PE parts and #9 inst sheet come in a few days.
And after then we will start to ship these to our dealers and to personnel who have contacted us until now.

There may be no more corrction PE, other parts or #10 inst sheet to be supplied for this Bismarck Basic set after this shipping. Of cpurse there are additional or corrction Instrcution manual parts we will post and update on our site with PDF format as usual.

So if there any other obscure part in your working, please let us know, we will try to clear your trouble.

Pontos - 1/200 Bismarck

Quite a bad misnumbering of an item on etch fret No.7

An item shown as part number 643 is in fact a second part number 641.
The number 643 applies to the two items below what is part number 641.

I found that to assemble this group of parts into platform supports for 647 & 648 that the best way was to glue 642 into place in the etched groove in 635 then position 643 into the next groove along and at the same time locate 657 over the top of 642 and 643 followed by 658 - l found that this allowed the small items to be moved around until them slotted into place with each other. All the small etched slots dovetail into a unit and they can then be glued down. Follow this by positioning and gluing into place the two items 644.

Hope this helps others again.

Mr.Kim
Can you please help on guidance on non fit of parts please?

The railing round the Staff Bow is listed as part No.13 but this could not fit round the bow section and this is different to that shown in the picture at the bottom of page 4 of instructions ???? (Also shown on page 11 of this section)

Rails 32 & 33 surely these need large sections to be cut away to fit over kit Parts No.E14 and E15 - (shown on pictures on page 11 of this section) please advise ???

Thanks

I was so looking forward to this set I held off starting my Bismarck but until the instructions are sorted I'm not going to buy this set hopefully lessons will be learned by pontos before the advance set comes out but now I'm sorely tempted to buy the MK sets which is a shame because I've used pontos sets before and found them excellent sets

Im using this set now and yes it's a bit frustrating. However it's not as bad as some seem to be making out. I've just about completed the main forecastle superstructure and the biggest frustration has been working out which brass parts are which. Yes I think that Pontos need to do a lot more work with their instructions, however they're not alone in this I haven't used any aftermarket Photo Etch set that have come with decent instructions and yes I've done quite a few.

Which should NOT be the case. Wouldn't it be much more enjoyable if that frustration was omitted?

Oh perfection is what you want. Well then you need another hobby

Mate there are far more important things to worry about in life. I've been ship modelling for 40 odd years and I'm just pleased as punch for the variety of ships and after market stuff that is available at present. If Pontos doesn't lift their game then they'll loose customers, which is their problem. There are other PE choices on the market for the Bismarck.

I've used PE sets from just about all of the different manufacturers over the years and none have been as simple as I'd like. From WEM, Fujmi, Hasegawa, GMM, Lion Roar, etc. they all have errors or problems of one sort of another.

Relax and just enjoy your hobby. :cool_1:

Sorry but had to reply to this.
I have been modelling longer than you and have also used sets from many other manufacturers but l have never, ever, found that parts that should have been supplied were not even on the etched frets. If you follow this thread you will see that Pontos are having to issue supplementary frets to cover these omissions and shortages- if you note we also have some parts that have been duplicated. My latest findings is that l believe a couple of the railings should have cut outs in them to go over or round items in there way but l await response from Mr.Kim on this matter.
If you look over this site at the many Pontos sets that have been covered l can find no other set is being talked about with parts missing or even to the extent of guidance needed with part numbers as the instructions covered things in a better way.
I have been over three sheets of the instructions (1,5,8) and added many part numbers that were missing (most of page 9 of the Pontos correction sheet was from my own findings - even though it doesn't say so) and have sent copy of these to several people on this site that were having problems with these sheets and just a few days ago sent an updated copy of page 8 to Mr.Kim at Pontos to ask his comments but await to hear back. Don't all rush but anybody that would like copy of these then send PM with your e-mail address but be warned they are large files.
I have said this before and repeat now in that my own findings are that this is a fantastic set but get the distinct impression that it was issued in a rush without proper checking.

... Of course if you scroll back to the begining of the thread you will find us all screaming at Pontos for their set, credit cards in hand, giving them our own personal laundry lists for what we want the set to include (still nobody included a resin Oscar the cat and PE litterbox! :heh: ) and telling them to hurry the hell up the whole way so the modelers share some blame too. :Tirade:

Nor is Pontos the only company that's had an "oopsie" on a rushed product; The KA MK1 Bismarck set was full of errors too, and they were never addressed... maybe they don't get so much flack because they don't get on the forum and actually talk to their customers.

None of this sours my high opinion of Pontos as a company; I'm VERY impressed by the stuff they've been turning out lately and I really think a plenty of these gripes are rooted in modelers who bit off more than they can chew with the "Big Bissy" and a huge aftermarket set and are venting frustration by blaming the aftermarket company (since Trumpeter obviously isn't listening!). This is a hard project... and it's supposed to be that way. Stop complaining and start putting stuff together!

Bow Rail on the page 4 was rail of Test PE, this area photo is instruction photo for the Final Jack Staff.

And No.13/32 and 33 were etched fully without pre-cut. We inteded to design these because each modeler would cut and fit himself as Staff/E14/E15 can be located slight differently.
We think it is not hard work.

What we can do is just update some corrections of Manual as usual.
Please check the correction Manual from time to time(we think almost of them have been shown to be corrected enough to be followed), and so hope you can start to work as soon as possible when you find and satisfy these corrections.

Thank you

I am sorry if our instruction have some hard sections to be understood.
And we think WEM/GMM/Tom's instructions are the best way for ship modelers. And these are our aims to follow up but we can't until now.

If you have any problem in following our instruction, just let me know we will try to solve your problem as always

Hi,

Sorry for the late in replying at this forum and personal emails.(just come back 4days vacation)

To read all the feedbacks again main problems have been come from some missed parts and the some hardness in following up/lack descriptions/errors of Instruction manual(almost critical sections have been corrected).
I am sure there is no more missed or wrong etched parts with recent correction PE fret so this problems have been cleared though there are remained shipping and safe distributing procedure of this correction set to our customers safely.

The remain problem is to make the working processes through our instruction manual more clear for easier work for our customers.
Until now for every project we've tried to show easier way to our customers. And all parts have been fit and tested 2-3 times. But even these work, if there are some of area can't be followed up these, just let me know the problem.
We will try to solve these as soon as possible.

And I've tried to reply and get feed back from all your question/suggestion/advice/request/asking for this set until now. And I thank to all who have done and will do these because I would sell this Bisamarck set for coming 30years or more.
We've printed already 4000 instruction manual set and now remained about 3000sets. As budget problem, we would not print manuals again until these 3000sets are sold out.
But surely after selling out these remained 3000sets, we will print again with the 2nd edition and at this time we will edit and correct some errors or misnumbering. until then please visit the web page of this set, we will update the correction pages regularly when we get feedbacks from you.

And for your easier work, it is also a good way to get this set with 2nd edition after 3000sets are sold out.
Hope we can sell 3000sets more as soon as possible.

Thank you
Kim

I've not informed this Correction set to our dealers formally yet because formal promotional web page is not completed. And I will inform them formally by this week. And I also will noted in this forum formally.

Anyway if you find there is no correction set just let us know via email, we will try to ship to any customer on the world this set.
Thank you
Kim
