Most impressive work Jim!
I'm glad that my humble effort spurred you to carry on with this masterpiece.
Unfortunately I've had a little accident with mine - it stumbled down from an elevated position on my working table, right into my hands.
I had many details to repair - now I did most of this work so I can carry on with the rigging - only after I will have returned from my holiday of a week.
Keep up the astonishing work!

That is amazing. I can barely manage to make a ship look decent in its brand new and non-sunk/rusted form. Jim you are a master of this craft.

you have given me an idea for a scrapped HMVS Cerberus kit I have here since her wreck is just down the road from me

i must say that a lot of the time I can no longer see the end result--but I guess its getting there!

@ Dafi ! Ha! no risk indeed...

I am now at laaaaast on the finishing straight-- adding small bits of pipework, refining the masts, adding broken single stanchions with drooping sprue cables etc etc

all very fiddly-- but its starting to look like the photos....

Surprising hard to make a model where despite most of it is missing under water, has no ships boats, crew , small guns and hardly any rails...


....and yet it seem to take even longer to get a convincing feel...!!!

Very, very nice.

I love how you've got the waves oriented perfectly as they wash up on deck. It's a small but necessary and well done detail to pull of a sense of realism. This build has very much transcended model making into art.

To all the patient followers of this model... ( started 04 April 2012 !!!! )

it is now--at last completed ( I think )

I will admit that sometimes I felt like I was loosing the will to live--!!!

it just did not seem to be going anywhere...

I am itching to clear up my modelbench and start something afresh--where the end might be in sight sooner...

anyhow here are a couple of quick shots this evening--a proper photo session in daylight will follow soon with images going to the Gallery in due course.

Unbelievably real.

You need to move the date closer to 1919, the rigging is too perfect for a 6 year old wreck. Photos of "HIM" taken during 1919 show the ship already in a sorry state.

Honest to God, I thought the first photo was of the real thing for comparison. Holy Cow, Jim, that is one of the most unique builds I have ever seen. Well done - it's really eye catching.

I must admit I think I need some distance from the model to start liking it again myself....

However...

I have been busy downloading large res images of Scapa Flow to use as the background when I re-photograph the model shortly ( good idea blacman! )

meanwhile....
