Rare view of the deck elevator in its lowered position, showing the darker-painted bulkheads much like was done by the USN in WWII:

They changed the entire bow too, if that red painted steel means anything.

So much for easily modifying the kit. You basically have to saw off the entire front 1/4th and 3d print a whole new replacement.

Awesome ships. So I guess the whole ski-jump upgrade kit is actually useless/wrong for this ship's upgrade? I wonder what she looks like from the front, considering that rather wide, straight forward edge of the flight deck combined with a rather slim bow.

As I recall, Izumo will also get the same refit that Kaga's getting. It's just that the refit schedule and the decision to covert conflicted with Izumo's availability to undergo the full refit, so hers will be done in two separate "smaller" refits bookending Kaga's.

I think it's time to move this to the CV category.

Izumo's conversion is finished and Kaga's underway. Btw, Kaga's bow has been refashioned in the same squared off manner as America. Her refit is also more extensive than Izumo's, particularly internally.

Thanks 'spejic'.....didn't see that until you mentioned it........... Very Likely that could be the reason. I've asked my Japanese friends there that are making these videos that question....I hope to get an answer .... Later this month??????

Anyways, here is an English version, again, from my Japanese friends on YT, that lead me to links that person provided, that gave me this video....

I like the speech the Colonel gave ( but I also like the soundtrack that they used ).

Interesting that they took out all the life boat canisters on that side. I guess they weren't sure they would hold on under that downblast. Maybe there will be some reconfigurations when they actually deploy F-35's on the ship.

Howdy, all....... just want to update you on this NEWER deployment onboard JS Izumo DDH-183.... the F-35Bs!!! :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Since I have been building the DDHs from JMSDF ( and building their models from JS Haruna DDH-141 --> JS Kaga DDH-184 ) I have been following the deployment of F-35B on these ships

Also Everybody was wondering when those F-35B were going onboard to be test flown on these ships, it just happened a couple of days ago!!

So, here's a nifty conversion set for everybody who purchased a 1/700 version prior to the authorized conversions:

I'm thinking it just might be ok to move this thread now .........

can do.

I found the first half of this sentence most interesting:
In March this year, the ruling LDP called upon the Japanese government to develop its own aircraft carriers and operate F-35B aircraft, which has been thought to include refitting the Izumo class.

Let's wait until they actually go ahead with the conversion ;)

From the looks of her she appears to be about the size of LHD or the new LHA class. Since they only make this in 1/700 to my knowledge I think it would make a nice piece in 1/350 but to make this would require two kits at 200.00 plus dollars I will wait. But Aside from the elevator being moved from the center line to AFT of the island. Does this class still have AFT VLS Module and I see the CIWS mounted on the bow which I never understood it location. I should have be either on the island or on a platform Like the LHA/LHD's.

Just curious here:

Why is the flight deck number "83" instead of "183?"

Same question for earlier JMSDF flat tops. Why is the flight deck number different? Why is the "1" in the hundreds place omitted in the flight deck number? (i.e. JDS Hyuga flight deck number "81," hull number "181")

I'd better start saving then.

I think you can count on it. It's just a question of which company gets theirs out first.

Hi guys,
So I have a few 1/350 kits finished and on hold. I completed the DDH 182 Ise a year or so back, my question is a bit vague but perhaps someone may have an insight?
Will we see a 1/350 DDH Izumo or Kaga?

Thanks in advance

Yes, the new ship's name is Kaga. My gut feeling is that this ship would have gotten the original armored cruiser Idzumo sister's name, Iwate, but for the current political situation vis-a-vis China. Kaga as a name for a carrier is a highly charged choice.
