hi guys some 35 years ago i built bismark and graf spee in 1/200 had no plans so i bought 1/600 scale models and redrawed all parts to 1/200 in 3 elevations without a t-square or angles. thanks to the internet plans are now availeble ,and there are retailers selling them, some plans are only 2 elevations its hard to envison what the other side looks like, pics help but i think doing all 3 elevations on paper gives a better outlook on things, could do it on the computer but most cad programs are beyond me. i liked the dark hull and light upper, she was this color just before she got her 100,57 m.m,s, so the color is not right but i like it. hull is gray violet, decks are dark gray and the upper is light ghost gray, bottom is guards red , it is to red. as far as cost i had it all on my computer but before i saved it it got a bug :heh: lost all kinds of stuff, a rough guess for supplies , and this is a guess around $500.00 plus many hours, on my next build i will keep a running total.thanks for all your intrest , the input and help is great. :wave_1:

Looking to improving on the previous build is always a good move . I try but don't always succeed but I do have fun trying. When you say "drafting stuff" do you undertake your own drawings , of fittings etc? I certainly like the idea of a 1:200 Vittorio Veneto , I wish you well with this new project. :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

hi guys,i came across some neat little things for making hose or cable reels. we have a dollar store in campbell river,i was looking around for stuff for scratch building and came across these. Image there is 4 differant sizes on each card 3m.m to 8 m.m. one side has a bigger flange than the other, perfect for a brake flange or if you want both sides to be the same use the same side of 2 snaps. to make the reel all i did was use tubing, wire, flat brass and a snap. the snaps already have a hole trough them and a tit sticking out to snap them together, drill tubing out to the tit size, cut to length and glue together.i think this makes a nice reel me thinks. jean bart never had u.s a.a.guns.it took intill 1949 to 1955 to completly get all her 57 mm and 100 m.ms.makes picking a year to build very confusing

JB was converted to U.S. anti-aircraft fittings in WWII wasn't she? Did the French convert her back after or was the ammo NATO standard by then?
Or am I thinking of Richelieu?

hi dave . no the cranes are built out of styrene,my casts come out of the molds easy, but my masters do not release from the molds worth a dam,i tried differant release agents and for some reason non silicone works better for molds and stuff with silicone works great for casting.i found the silicone makes styrene coverd masters sticky.i sure wish there was a molding compound that you could mix without worrying about air bubbles.

i cast some small deck boats today,i am sure there are better ways to do it ,but heres my attempt. i first poured one solid hull and then poured another one and set the first one into it to make a hollow shell. the casting does not take long as the stuff i use sets up in 5 mins .also cast some anchors used some wax, then used a metal anchor and pressed one half tured it over and did the other side. heres a few pics Image Image Image Image

Hello Russ,

Great build so far. I have always liked the French inter war BB and BC ever since I started building those 1/400 Heller kits in high school. I agree with Dave, try the WEM paints. I have used them and never had a problem with the paints not matching between tins.(I should hope there are no problems as my DDE will take a little more than just 1 tin  )

Keep up the good work. I have down loaded the plans for the Richelieu and Dunkerque from the following link (from a message on this board):
http://www.servicehistorique.sga.defens ... tebato.php

and may try to build one of these after my Cdn fleet is done.

Hi Russ I know only to well the problem your having. . Like you I was experiencing the same problems in matching paints and could never really achieved the results I wanted. On my previous model I was recommended to try WEM . The results were spot on. I can order knowing that the next batch will be identical to the first. :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

thanks dave not up to your standards, but every ship i do gets better. i am posting a pic of sample paint job,if you look close you can see there are 2 differant colors on funnel and superstructure. which one is better. i tried painting scrapes to see how it looked but the only way was to paint some of the ship.i used spray cans .also any of the paint brands it doesnt matter if its tamiya, humbolt or testers, spray can and bottles of the same colors do not match. this is driving me nuts trying to find two colors that match.
the to samples on the boat i used light ghost gray and primer, in the background kgv is light sea gray all are tamiya , p.s lower part of j.b is light ghost gray Image

Hi Russ Your turrets are looking really good I also like the punch , I have one and it's a very useful tool . I must admit I'm not that keen on the challenging task of prop making, a bit to difficult for me . Thanks for taking time and posting up your progress build photos .
