I believe it was still the SuperFerry 9. There were some crew members and cameramen from "Star Magic" (ABS CBN) who boarded the ship. I think there was one or 2 of them who got lost in the tragedy, not so sure..

I think not yet. All they said was that it was the captain's fault. He should have turned around and went back to Manila, just like another large ferry from SuperFerry which also turned back. Maybe he was too confident that his ship will sustain the battering waves, some say it was the Coast Guard's fault for letting the ship leave port, even if they are aware that a large storm is in their route.

The ship never had a bad record for engine problems or like that.

I believe the company should accept the blame. Imagine, Sulpicio Lines is responsible for the death of 5000 plus of its passengers!! Ever since the Dona Paz tragedy (4000 dead), the Dona Marilyn (300 dead), The Princess of the Orient (300+ dead) and the recent Princess of the Stars (700+ dead)

It was even placed in the Guiness Book titled as "the largest death toll of a single shipping company"

Sulpicio Lines just learned a lesson

I heard another one went down a few days ago with "esteemed" national personalities such as Ai Ai de las Alas and even former prez. Erap Estrada. Any truth to that? They both survived though. The news here in Bataan only briefly touched on it. What's up with that?

Man! does anyone in this nation ever learn a lesson???!!

SuperFerry 9 sinks off the coast pf Zamboanga del Norte last September 7 at dawn. 9 are dead and 33 missing. More than 800 are resqued

After 5 hours, SuperFerry 9 finally capsized and sank.

Some passengers were later found near the ship after it sank. Another passenger was found around a kilometer from the site after two days drifting in the water.

Another sad loss of one of the largest shipping companies in the Philippines.

Just a year ago, MV Princess of the Stars also capsized and sank leaving more than 600 passengers missing and presumed dead. There were only 50+ survivors. She sank at the height of typhoon Fengshen. It was owned by Sulpicio Lines Inc.

She was the 2nd largest ship in the Philippines

Recovery efforts were very slim in this toppled wreck

As of now, the wreck is still present.

Another ship owned by SuperFerry, the SuperFerry 14 sank last 2004 due to a terrorist bomb placed on a small TV set onboard the ship. It was linked to the Abu Sayyaf group, which is also linked the Al Qaeda militants. Thebomb exploded just minutes after leaving the port of Manila. She capsized after hours of firefighting but was righted months after the attack for further investigation. More than 60 were killed immediately. Another hundred were missing while the rest of the 700 passengers were rescued. It was the 2nd worst terrorist attack at sea.

Another one was said to be "the world's worst peacetime maritime tragedy" It was the MV Dona Paz, also owned by Sulpicio Lines Inc. It occured in December 1980s, just days before Christmas when she embarked her trip carrying more than 4000 passengers. She collided with the MT Vector, a tanker that carried products from Caltex Philippines. Both ships immediately caught fire and sent explosions running throughout the 2 ships. Dona Paz sank after 2 hours with only 24 survivors out of 4000 and only 2 crewmembers out of the 30+ on the Vector which sank 4 hours later.

National Geographic released a documentary showing the events during this tragic disaster. It aired last August 25 and will have additional screenings this September 28 and 29, so don't miss it!

Thanks for giving me the oppurtunity to show you the history of the Philippine's maritime disasters.
