I believe the winners were posted on the main page under "Group Build Winners"

are you talking about this contest or the Blue/Gray Americon contest? AFAIK the online gun cruiser awards has not been announced, if you're talking about the Lynchburg contest I think that was my buddy's 1/350 U.S.S. Independence CVL-22.

Not that I needed any validation, but my Chicago won Best American WW II Ship in the Blue/Gray Renegade AmeriCon 2011 contest in Lynchburg, VA yesterday. The trophy is one of the best I've ever seen...it is a framed photo arrangement of the Medal of Honor certificate of the commander of U.S.S. Barb with a photo of him and his signature, with a nice tag identifying what the award is for (category).

Well, from what I've seen so far this is going to be much harder to judge than the Destroyer contest. Look for results within a few days.

Matt, the Chicago looks great! Would love to see you do one in the dazzle camo.

Times running out, I wont be able to do ladders or stairs, but should hopefully have the both catapults painted and placed, and hopefully all the guns in place. Its going to be close. With 4 hours to go

When I get around to my next Northampton class build it could be Louisville 1944 in the dazzle scheme at Surigao Strait. For some reason I thought Chicago was in Ms 12 gray during Savo.

Bob,

Thanks for kind words, the deck was a last minute experiment that I think I had fair success. With more time I would have revised and fine tuned it a little better but still not terrible for a first try. I was planning on putting her to sea, however again with time constraints I opted to mount her on a display base with option to do water later. I was going to try Phil Reader's approach but I chickened out, probably practice with a less involved kit and then give it shot and besides with MS21 putting on water does what it is designed to do and that is hide it. I think it will be awhile before I tackle a Northampton class again, however that Dazzle scheme the Chester wore is pretty snazzy...Hmm... Anyway, your build looks pretty good, the action of the moment is conveyed very well. Still kind of cool that this build attracted 3 Northampton class CA's into it.

Nice work on Chicago '42, I especially like the treatment of the wood on the deck. You planning to leave it on a "plain" base? I'm not going to build another Chicago to that standard ('42) I think 5 times is enough!
