If you are a recent returnee to modelshgipping you may choose to ignore the points outlined below and simply build the model and enjoy it--in which case read no further....
Here is a model built without PE or too many mods that makes an atmospheric diorama...

Here goes!
The biggest thing that needs to be addressed are the davit positions and the davits themselves.
the davits as such are easily addressed by using the WEM PE kit... which has great hollow centre fold up davits
Its the he positions of the davist that are a problem with the kit
They should coincide with the 'reinforced' window-less sections in the window row.
The apertures in the kit are spaced very wrongly because:
The kits boats are basically a bit too big-- I have prepared a brace of boats from a spare Airfix Queen Elizabeth kit
for my future build....
( you could see if you can acquire two kits-or a badly built example and a fresh kit--(its a lovelier kit than QM...
)
the top superstructure that houses the funnel bases deck is a bit tall....
I will make mine all new when the time comes...
The funnel bands should be sanded off and replaced with thin tape- if I remember rightly the funnels are all a bit tall as well...
The fwd super-structure below the bridge has been 'flattened' in the kit...
If you want to pursue a completely accurate model of QM you may need to quire the anatomy of the ship Queen Mary book-- good plans and photos....
But here are some images I saved from the debriesfield website showing the mods to the fwd superstructure- alas I cannot recall who actually was building the model...
