now as you mentioned it :Oops_1: i had a look at my old superstrukture and there are 3 closed Portholes. During the cleaning Process I must have them removed without marking. Sorry my fault.

I have not used the Artwox deck, but I have heard from Brandon at freetime hobbies, that it is a beautiful deck. Hes pretty sharp, I think you'll be happy with it.

This is a question for someone who has used wood decks on models. I have a problem that I have really been struggling with. I have a deluxe kit on order and it includes a wood deck. I am going to paint my Bismarck with the stripes which go up the superstructure. Are these wood decks added AFTER the superstructure is built as an assembly, or are they added AS you build it? I hope I am wording this question properly, because if the wood decks are attached AS it is being built then I have ALOT of masking work ahead to protect those decks and I cannot build these assemblies until the kit arrives. But if they can be applied after the superstructure is built and painted......well.....that would be nice.

I think they only speak German and from what's being said around the forum, getting them to do pay pal or even ship outside of Germany has been like pulling teeth. Wilhelm has been successful getting stuff from them here to the USA, check his build for more info.
I realise what you are saying Jason, but the site has an English option for ordering and suggests paying via Paypal.

Edit:- I've just received a mail from them as I pressed submit!! They are very busy at the moment, and have promised to send my order by Tuesday. So, fear not, you can order in English and pay via Paypal. The Email I have just received is in English.

WEM colour coats should be added to the list of paints. They're very nice. :thumbs_up_1:

I would like to add a couple of books that are incredible, and have helped me develop a plan for rigging the ship and have the very best drawings I have seen so far. They are out of print, but if you can get your hands on them they are great. AJ Press #15 through #18 Bismarck and Tirpitz. I also have #1 Bismarck which is a great resource. I have spent many weeks researching the rigging on the Bismarck, and the drawings in these publications are the best I have seen. Definite must haves, IMHO.

The bow shields (Wappen), nameplates, and eagles ("Hoheitsabzeichen"...literal "glory emblem") were removed from the Kriegsmarine fleet with the outbreak of war in 1939. Apparently a thin attempt to camouflage German warships, or for scrap metal for the war effort (?). "Admiral Graf Spee" was caught at sea when war broke out, so she carried her peacetime Kriegsmarine regalia into the Battle of the River Platte in December, 1939. Her "Hoheitsabzeichen" has been recovered from her wreck and is on display in a museum in Montevideo, Uruguay. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt ... Ag&dur=277

Bismarck was not commissioned into service until 24 August, 1940. She never wore the peacetime Kriegsmarine regalia. If you build her like that, you choose to deviate a bit from strict historical fact. However, artistically, your model may be all the more striking! Nice that you can permit yourself the LIBERTY to do as you please! :wave_1:

Hi, the vents are great, slightly larger than the moulded version on the hull and far more than the kit has depicted. For the water intakes I cut out the plastic but the other vents I didn't. Having painted the lower hull there's clearly no need to remove the plastic for the smaller vents as you can't see it. Behind the larger water intakes I simply stuck a bit of plastic card about 1 cm in from the vent and painted it black. Looks great to my eyes !. Other stuff I got from them included the screw protectors, boat booms, couple of name plates for the stand, life rafts, the national eagle symbol but I have no idea if it goes on the boat and the bismarck emblems, again, no idea if they should go on the boat however they look great so I might stick them on there somewhere anyway (as you can tell, I;m not from the rivet counter side of the hobby, I build the kits for pleasure and I'm not that worried about being 100% accurate, more interested in the end result looking good.

I am glad that you have opened this thread. Neil, how are the vents? Did you order anything else from them? Ive debated on 3 deluxe kits, MK1 which is available now and two that are supposed to be offered within a month or so, one from Pontos and one from Artwox. I talked to the guys at freetime hobbies and decided to wait for the Artwox kit. I preordered it about 3 weeks ago and I will post pics and a decent review of it as soon as I get it in, which I hope is soon...cant stand waiting :mad_2: . Also I have been looking for two books on the Bismarck by Josef Kaiser, Das original and Das Modell, if anyone has a lead on these please let me know, I sure would appreciate it.

I'm finding out the Mk1 instructions really just plain suck; many of the PE vents aren't numbered on the instructions, leaving you having to guess which one goes where among the dozen or so different sizes. :doh_1: I chiseled and sanded off virtually all my kit vent moldings beforehand so I've got a bit of a challenge ahead of me... it might be wiser to do them one at a time to match the vents as you go.

Thanks Channell and Neil, both.

I think I'll create a new ERRORS section and a new WARNINGS section to address serious problems like the misprinted Mk-1 Instruction sheet that suggests the builder should cut away eight AA platforms instead of the intended four.

Please keep coming with your suggestions, everybody, and if they are pertinent to the Trumpeter 1/200 Bismarck, I'll include them in my post at the top of this thread, where they can be printed out for your use.
