Just a little solution I came up with for wrapping searchlights in tarps with ropes. The pictures say it all. This is part of a build log/tutorial in Photo post, but thought I'd put it here as well since it's a tip and it's tricky. : )

I want to have my searchlights covered and bound in a rain tarp. Instead of covering the part with tissue or foil, I quickly carve a tarp covered light, paint it, and wrap that in caenis. Here I've drawn the search light silhouette on the end of an appropriate sized evergreen strip.

I've carved the tarp covered light on the end of a strip of Evergreen sprue. The sprue is a good handle. I carve notches and folds for my caenis thread that will come later.

I've carved both searchlights on either end of the evergreen sprue. I've painted it a dingy tarp colour.

It's easy to now wrap the painted searchlight in caenis thread.

A touch of thin CA adheres the caenis in place. It's now a simple matter of cutting off the light and mounting it on the ship.
