Not sure if you ever saw this site:
https://cmano-db.com/search.php
It contains a lot of info on Soviet sonars. I found the MG3225 Vega, VDS of Krivak etc. with NATO designation Mare Tail. This is the one you seem to be looking for.

It seems to be verified this is also the original VDS fitted to the Kiev class. This is the inside of the VDS compartment in the Kiev, also a museum in China and apparently much better maintained. The tail of the identical towed body is visible.

Interesting, thank you. This VDS looks very much like the unit displayed on the rear starboard of the Minsk, which is currently rotting away as a largely derelict hulk marooned in a land locked lake after failing to support herself as a tourist trap in China. Except on the ship it is upside down.

I am guessing that was the original VDS fitted to the Minsk. But if that is the case, then the VDS should deploy out of a location near where the gang plank is currently attached on the stern. But the compartment the gang plank is attached to seem cavernous and far larger than needed to hold that VDS And its deployment system.

Decided to put this here, to satisfy Chuck's recent curiousness into Soviet VDS's.

Here is the Krivak VDS:

Gentleman, would any of you be interested in building a 1/96th scale Krivak (I or II)?
I recently came across a one man operation by the name of MTB hulls (http://www.mtbhulls.co.uk/). Christian, the owner sells a wide rande of fiberglass hulls for RC and static models and will add anything to the current line by request with the condition that you order at least three of the same hull. No extra tooling cost should be payed. He said building a Krivak hull would not be a problem, so I'm looking for other volunteers who'd like to have one.
Check out his photos to get an idea of the quality of his work. https://www.flickr.com/photos/mtbhulls/page1
His hulls are priced by hull length, so going by his pricelist a Krivak in 96th would cost around 90.

If you'd be interested in ordering one please post a reply or drop me a line.
Thank you for your attention.

Peter

Shame there is no plastic 1/350 kit of these ships. They were once the workhorses of Soviet surface ASW units.

My model of Storozhevoy build using the Skywave 1/700 kit. She is depicted as in 1975, when her crew mutinied.

I was surprised how many parts I had to modify. Especially the superstructure between the bridge and the funnel is wrong and difficult to correct. I used GMM PE parts for the masts and radars, barrels for Italian 9 cm guns for the 7.62 cm turrets and lifebuoys and decals by NNT.

Found she was transferred to the Ukrainian navy as the Sevastapol' U132 and scrapped later on. Thanks!

According to this, Razitelnyy received the 807 hull number in 1989. Judging by the turrets, she's a Krivak I/Project 1135, which corresponds with Razitelnyy as well.

You get in the package one large sheet showing profile and top view at 1/100.
This sheet contains numbers which correspond to an item in the book where you get multiple views for better quality.
Also in the book you get multiple line drawings for your choice of scale. 1/200 1/150 1/100 1/75 1/50
There is over 55 pages in the book including a page dedicated to the colours used on the ship.
You may say pricy, yes I agree but you also get a disk of images of Russian ships dedicated to the ship your planning to build.
If I buy a plan from the UK or US all I get is 2-4 pages usually and pay similar prices and is no where as good as these plans.
Hope this helps you.

Thanks!

Do you know if those plans come with hull sections?

The site does not describe what you get other than sheets and booklet.

Good news for you from Russia.
The Ultimate Encyclopaedia Book on Krivak-I/Krivak-II Classes has been just published.
Following modifications described: Pr.1135, Pr.1135M, Pr.11353, Pr.11352.
Genuine building drawings are published for the first time. In addition to external views detailed internal layouts represented: overall longitudal cross-section, plans of ALL decks (from platform to upper deck), 7 frame cross-sections plus about 400 Photos, service history of all 21 Krivak-I and 11 Krivak-II units! :woo_hoo:
Highly recommend! :thumbs_up_1:
Front and Back cover images attached.
The book could be ordered through E-Mail of the site: http://SiriusM.homestead.com/index.html

No one has answered the question about locating this book.

Also, does anyone have a source for hull plans? Given there are no 1/350 kits, I would like to build one!

Thanks Sean.

Perhaps i'm better off trying to pick up the Skywave Krivak 2 then. Does it have all the changes represented in the kit?

thanks
Mike

Mike-

There are few more differences in sensors/illuminator/directors, and minor differences in superstructure.

I'm doing the more sensibly sized (and easier to make!) Skywave 1/700 Krivak right now and have a few questions.

Am I right in thinking the only difference between a Krivak 1 and 2 was the Krivak 1 had 2 twin 76mm guns and the Krivak 2 had 2 single 100mm guns? If so where can I get the singel 100mm guns and turrets to make my second Krivak into a Krivak 2.

Which Krivaks if any, were in the Russian Pacific fleet, let 80's, through the 90's?

thanks
Mike
