For footropes use stretched sprue. much finer and thinner than PE

Have a read here

1)Form a long loop fromend of yard arm to centre mast( or on some ships beyond to the inboard end of the yard other side of the mast)

2)in the centre of loop attach the vertical with Revell contacta glue ( see above link for technique and use)

3) once the glue has softened the loop--pull the vertical upwards and ikt will make a neat kink - glue to the yard arm with the Revell glue.

repeat as many times as needed --each time allowing the loop to kink

needs a bt of practice...

see examples below in 1/700 amd 1/350

quoted from my build thread;

These { footropes }were all made of stretched sprue; the technique being to create equal size bows each side. Once the cement set one then needs bisect the centre with another piece of stretched sprue with some liquid poly on it; attach to the bow and once the poly melts the bow draw it upwards and secure the end to the spar. Repeat this until a feasible representation of the footrope on one side of the spar has been achieved. Then repeat!

I placed a 1/700 PE figure on each the yards to ensure that he would be able to stand on the footrope and furl the sails with his waist in the correct pace so as to ensure they stayed within acceptable scale boundaries.
