Thanks, finnfan, that helps a lot. There are very few pictures of these ships on the web that are NOT taken at sea level, and from a distance, so making out details such as deck color and material is a challenge. I was able to find one or two B&W pics that seem to show, as you said, a linoleum-like surface. It clearly doesn't look like wood, and the Combrig kit does not have planking scribed into the deck. Their Sverdlov kit, however, does have planking scribed, so I am assuming that class of ships had a wooden deck?
