The idea of using a larger hull, possibly even a very large commercial hull, for aBMD warship is not new, but is a very good one.
Given the problems with LPD-17 propulsion plants, I am not sure how viable that hull is.

I also seem to recall a proposal to built CGN(X) on an LPD-17 hull, tho I am not sure how serious that was.
Anyways, if nothing else it would make for an interesting model.
