What-If LPD-17 Flight II: BMD

Post by ChrisH »

I saw an article online yesterday of a Huntington Ingalls Industries LPD-17 "Flight II BMD" model.

A bit of googling found some additional information a HII, too:

I also seem to recall a proposal to built CGN(X) on an LPD-17 hull, tho I am not sure how serious that was.

Anyways, if nothing else it would make for an interesting model.

The idea of using a larger hull, possibly even a very large commercial hull, for aBMD warship is not new, but is a very good one.

Given the problems with LPD-17 propulsion plants, I am not sure how viable that hull is.
