I thought I would push this back to the top- www.defensenews.com is reporting that DDG-1001 will be named after this MoH hero.

The Arleigh Burke class design is dated. I hope that the Navy can come up with a new design rather than build more flight 2A A. Burkes.

I was about to say USS Fletcher, but after watching this video, I would vote for a USS Monsoor. Not that it means anything since I am a Spaniard and not an American, but just my 2c.

USS ENGLAND would be a good name - especially since (was it Nimitz?) who said "There will always be an ENGLAND in United States Navy." (at present there is not).

Does that mean that "Spruance" has become a "traditional"USN name and will be used for the forseeable future ?

If so, are there any other names that are to be regarded as "traditional" ?

* DDG 111 will be named the Spruance

* DDG 112 was to be the last, but there may be 8-11 more with the "cancellation" of the Zumwalts

* "Modernization technologies will be integrated during new construction of DDG 111 and 112, then retrofitted into DDG Flight I and II ships during in service overhaul periods." I wonder how visual the modernization technologies will be on these, such as the notable variations in the later DDGs.
